I have a Remington 700 Varmint. Thinking about trying to put it in
a HS Precision sporter stock.
I really dont like the wide forends on varmint stocks but I
do like fat barrels.
Thought I would ask here first and see what you all thought.

Thanks

I'm sure it's doable. Depending on how wide the forend is at the end, but you may end up with no "flats" on the top of the stock where it meets the barrel. If you're OK with that, sand away.

I getting ready to do that on a Manners that's 1 1/2" wide, & they only recommend up to a #5 contour. There will end up being a little flat on each side, so it'll look fine.

I've seen a few wood stocks done that way. They usually end up with a pretty sharp edge out on the fore-end but didn't look to bad. Like alf said, if you can live with it, sand away.

Ruger m77 tang safety in 7mm rm.
Christensen cf barrel.

I dremeled out a factory Rem synthetic sporter for a factory rem varmint barrel. Turned out like crapshoots wood stock. Not sure that will work well with a HS precision, I don't think they are "solid". More of a filled stock, outer layer is not that thick. I would be interested in buying it, have a couple different sporters that could use an upgrade.

Just opened up an HS stock from a Rem Varmint contour to a Heavy Palma contour. Stock was an old Remington LTR stock. Some sandpaper and a deep-well socket is all you need. Go slow as the filler is soft and sands quick. Also, wear a mask or run a shop vac while sanding.
