I bought some Velocitor .22 LR's and a 30 rd clip today for my 10/22. I know, i know, not much good for yotes but its what im stuck with for now. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gifI am just wondering how much better the velocitors are than regular hollowpoints, as they are much more expensive and look alot better.

I have used the velocitors in my 22 for shooting kit foxes at night. It would probably be easier to use a shotgun but I would rather used a rifle.
Not much of a testimony as they are smaller than a big jackrabbit, but they do go down right away if you hit them in the vitals.

I read up on them and it says up to 22% greater energy at 100 yds, and up to coyote sized varmints? Any concrete evidence??

If you intend to shoot coyotes at 100 yards with the .22 LR, you're going to have some serious trouble recoverying game. Or was that for comparison purposes only? Any Long Rifle requires surgical placement and short ranges for anything remotely resembling a positive result on coyote size game. Forget the 30 round magazine, that won't help because you will not get that many shots. "Spray and Pray" won't cut it. You got this covered right?

I personally preffer the Stingers as well. CCI list their velocities as just below most .22 Mags. I've shot rabbits, groundhogs and squirrels with them. They WILL drop a rabbit or groundhog in thier tracks at about 80 paces. The squirrels I hit with them leave bigger blood splatter than a lot of the deer I've shot with a 7mm Mag. Velocitors are basically the fastest high velocities on the market and the Stingers are the fastes hyper velocities on the market.

Not sure where that was headed. May be I got lost in translation /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif.

Velocitors will penetrate much more than the Stingers. If a 22lr is the ONLY option you have, wait for a broadside shot and put it behind the shoulder.

I shot and killed one coyote with a 22 lr with a Velocitor. Double lung broadside shot. It ran 40 yards and piled up.

If you have access to a shotgun that's a much more effective coyote killing gun IMO.

The Stingers have always been a good round for 22's since they were introduced.Lately I have been using the cci quick shoks for gophers, rabbits, squirrels and other small game. They really stop things dead.

I used some quik-shoks back when Eliey was producing them. They devistate small birds and will tear a squirls head off. However, I shot a couple grey fox with them & they didn't work as well. The bullet is precut into 3 sections for rapid seperation. The lack of penetration did not work well on the greys. I found both but other HP's work much better on something that weighs over 2 lbs.

The Velocitor is the only leagal 22 round for Turkeys here in Colorado and they work just fine for them. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I saw a big difference when I switched from Remmington subsonic hp's to Velocitors. Squirrels dropped dead right there every time. I lost a few with the subsonics. I now hunt with nothing else in my .22.

Yeah

The quick shoks are not too good for larger animals like fox. I am not sure they would do very well with groundhogs either, but they are impressive with anything smaller. I use them gopher hunting and they tear them apart. With the vipers,stingers,velociters... you will get runners that get to their holes after you hit them, even on good shots, but with the quick shoks they are blown apart and laying there. I have shot blackbird where they were blown completely in half. Also I started my 5 year old son shooting a 22lr this year and he loves filling plastic jugs and pop bottles with water and shooting them with QS's because the bottles explode when hit.

Velocitors are much more accurate in my 10/22 which sports a 20" GM fluted sporter barrel. Another good 40 grain hollow point round that shoots accurately, and cost less, is the Winchester PowerPoint. I don't have a lot of experience with Stingers or Quick Shocks but most posts I've seen on RimfireCentral indicate poor accuracy. I think you'd rather have a well placed shot that puts the critter down as opposed to a hyper-velocity round that hits but allows the critter to crawl away.

I had a 10/22 awhile back when the Velicitors first came out. I tested them on many different items to see just what they would penetrate... Long story short I could consistently shoot 2 pennies (taped together) at 100 yards and go thru them both. I got thru 3 pennies 50% to 60% of the time. I was impressed and the Velicitor is the ONLY 22LR ammo I'll hunt with!
