very good source of Japanese built 18650's

at one point I was about to give up on the 18650 batteries with my AGM thermals. When it was getting cold I was down to about 30 minutes of life span. I looked at large battery packs, which kinda suck strapping to a rifle. This kinda worked, but instead I started looking for better batteries and found orbtronic out of florida. They have japanese built 18650 batteries which are a significant upgrade from the flat out unknown quality of other brands including batteries that come with your higher end thermals and nice flashlights. I have been running one of their cells in my flashlight I carry everyday and can report these life is wo mo better. They were working great also last winter. I still use a battery pack for my scanner because I can run the wire around my lanyard and around into my coat pocket, This keeps the 18650 just as a backup. however on the thermal scope I prefer to not have wires and a pack. So they have been awesome there too. They also have dedicated cold weather 18650's which I haven't tried yet. I just get the ones that are japanese cell and japanese integrated circuit. I use a battery supplier out of PA that has all sorts of quality batteries in every price range.
I buy/use protected batteries, charge them with a quality charger and get about three years of heavy usage out of them.
I number the batteries so I don't over use them and that adds to their lifespan.
Unprotected batteries are cheaper, but usually have a shorter lifespan and could cause damage to equipment if they're overcharged.
I hunt in very cold weather sometimes and have tested cold weather rated batteries compared to a quality cell and found that it's not worth the expense for cold weather rated batteries.
It's good you found a supplier and battery you trust.

usually the unprotected batteries don't have the protruding button on them for making contact. The devises I use that run 18650's have gotten to the point they will not turn on without with protected batteries with buttons for the contact. I have some of the older non protected batteries from years ago and they will not run anything anymore that is currently made.

Because 18650 batteries seem to be all over the place lengthwise I choose to run button tops simply to have trouble free hunts. I can run flat tops in flashlights and headlamps without issue. My RIX thermal powers up with flat tops… Until I shoot and the recoil causes the battery to lose contact and the scope to power off. I mean it really makes the hunt more challenging, but I’m not that guy… I like a double occasionally! 😂
