Volquartsen

After a series of trades between myself and a buddy of mine, I ended up with a Volquartsen Evolution .204. It has the skip fluting and the big muzzle break. I will be going to the range this afternoon to see how it shoots.

I did not get the owner's manual with the gun and the Volquartsen website seems to be down. Any one know how to clean the operating mechanism in this beast? I am guessing that I will have to take the barreled action out of the stock.

The gun came with nice rings and a BSA 17HMR scope. If I remember prior posts correctly, the BSA 17 HMR makes a better doorstop than a rifle scope. I put on an old 6x20 Scopechief but am thinking about upgrading to a Bushnell 3200. I see they make one in 7 x 21. Anyone with experience with the 7x21 3200 Elite? Or maybe I should save a few bucks and stay with the Scopechief.

I have already noticed one down side. The Evolution takes a standard AR 15 Mag. My .204 loads for my Savage and Ruger .204s were too long for the Mag so I now have to load specifically for the Evolution. Hopefully that will not hurt accuracy.

There is a 3200 Elite, 7-21 in the classifieds right now... My Mini 14 is the same way.. my other .223's like 2.280 or there abouts. I took a standard Cartridge and measured it and made shorter length loads to fit the Mag. Good Luck !

Anxious to see a range report on your Evolution. I have seriously considered one myself but waited for someone to take one for the team... And you are so correct about the BSA scope - I had 3 of those HMR models before I got one that seemed to work, but it is gone now.
