VX5HD vs Zeiss V4

I'm looking to purchase some new glass for my new Weatherby deer rifle and I've got it narrowed down between the Leupold VX5HD and the Zeiss V4. Does anyone here have any experience with the two and cares to chime in on which they prefer?

Can't speak for the Zeiss V4 but I've spent a little time behind the VX5 HD and was very impressed with their optics. I have a non HD VX6 on my 20-250 and the VX5 HD has better optics.

I have a vx5hd 3-15 on my coyote rifle and shot steel out to 500 yards with it. The glass is very good and it has always tracked well and held zero for me. I think they are a very good long range hunting scope turrets are ok little mushy but there not bad. I like the low profile turret and the locking feature. I think the glass on the vx5hd will be better then the v4. I don’t think you could go wrong with either scope. Get a look through both of them outside in some low light to compare them everybody’s eyes are a little different.

I don't have those specific models but have owned both makes for decades.
I have used warranty service with both. Leupold always repaired or replaced timely. Zeiss exceeded my expectations quickly.
Zeiss has always given me a brighter picture and more huntable hour than Leupold so I would be interested if Leupold can match that in real world.

I own a VX-3i, so I'm imagining that the VX5HD is even clearer than that glass. I really like the CDS Leupold has, but I'm not above trying different brands like Zeiss.

I have a few vx3's and vx3i's and recently got to look thru the VX5 and I was very impressed with it! I have no Zeiss experience so I can't compare the two, but my experience tells me if I were in the market for another scope, it would either be a vx5 or another Tract Toric.

You can't go wrong with either scope.

The Zeiss should be a little brighter in very low light, using a little better glass/coatings, for my eye anyway.

One thing I have noticed is, we can have 5 different people looking through the same optics, and we'll get 5 different opinions as to which is 'best'.

Look through both, and let your eyes decide on the glass. Mechanically, both should be comparable.

Years ago, I looked through my son's Assembled in USA Zeiss Conquest (about $400 back then), a 3x9x40, and then looked though my buddies Swarovski Z3, 4x12x50, (about $900), and was surprised to see the Zeiss had better color rendition than the Swaro. The yellow flowers next to the targets were bright yellow through the Zeiss, but appeared washed out through the Swaro. Same thing with the orange target stickers, the Zeiss was noticeably better with colors.

My buddy did not see it the same way, and said his Swaro's looked better.
