Walker game ears??

I got a set a couple years ago. I feel I wasted my money. They will amplify the sounds and they will shut off when you fire a gun. But they also amplify even wind noise. I could hear a mosquito before he even got around myhead. I could hear my self breath. white noise in the background seemed to alleviate the sounds I was looking for. I still use them scouting for Turkeys. They are a great advantage there. And you can forget walking around squirrel hunting. And if you want to know just how quiet you may be on a deer stand, get one. You will wonder how you ever kill anything. When you turn your head, the skin contact on the collar of your hunting shirt will make a scraping sound that will override the sounds you are listening for.

Others may have a different opionion. But these are my experiences with the game ears. Randy

i have one that i've used a bit. Like rajn says - they do amplify wind noise, but then you must turn down the volume. I don't think they're of a lot of use normally, but if you're in a blind especially at night they can be of a help. My use for them was in leopard blinds, you could hear the cat eating on the bait clearly, even though my ears are about shot (along with the rest of me)

I use the Walker Quad Power muffs and really like them. As RagnCajn said, they aren't much good in high wind and I slip them off while adjusting the volume on my e-caller, but they do what they were designed to do, protect your hearing.

Hearing in my left ear is nearly gone and right ear is somewhat damaged; with the WGE, I can hear hogs moving through the brush that I had been unable to hear previously.
The four mikes on the quad's do give some sense of direction, though I do not rely on it completely. If not sure of direction of sound, I just slip the muffs off my ears.

I don't hunt without them, but I do need to protect what hearing remains.

hm

I use the Harris Quest Sportear in the canal. You can get them direct or from Cabela's. I have been very please with them.

Me too! I only turn them on when I need to hear something, or someone. I don't use them when coyote hunting. Too bulky, but they are great for rabbits, Pdogs, and the range. I use custom ear plugs when calling.

Wish I had started using hearing protection 40 yrs ago. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I bought the power muffs two years ago and I hate them.I have the same complaints about em that RagnCajn has.If you do decide to buy a pair let me know,I'll give you a real good deal on mine.

I bought a set of Radians Hunters Ears from Cabela's. They do have some white noise but after five minutes I was used to it. They fit pretty snug, but didn't really hurt my ears till after about five hours. If there is a continuous noise like an engine running then they are not going to help you much, but when shooting ground squirrels it is nice to be able to talk to each other. Just don't walk under a power line or you will get a pretty good buzzing from them. All in all I like them for at the range or anywhere there will be alot of shooting.

I had a Walker's game ear, and I hated the fact that I could hear great on one side, but might as well been death in the other ear. And, in that case, you simply loose your since of direction, with one ear being able to hear a noise that the other ear doesn't you can't tell from which direction the noise is coming from.
I have also bought the quad muffs since, and I like them much better, although bulky, they do as advertised, BUT like the other guys, I have got to save what hearing I have left. Of course if I could get rid of the constant ringing that I currently am living with, I'd be a happy camper!

That's what I'm getting at NASA, my hearing is bad with the constant ringing. A couple years back a friend and I were running the deer hounds and it sounded like they were coming straight to us, I walked into the woods a ways and squated on a deer trial were I could see a pine clearing on a ridge, the dogs keep coming but I was late and the deer had crossed the clearing and went to the field were my fiend was, it was a doe so he didn't shoot. She turned back and went down the trial I was on and I didn't hear her till the hoofs went by my ear, she jump over me, now that's pretty bad hearing. I was thinking of looking into hearing aids but they cost alot and was thinking that the in the ear Game Ears may do the same, only person I've heard that like hearing aids payed $5-6000 for them. Out of my price range.

EWOK:
I think the Walkers will work for you. I have very bad case of tinitis in both ears and a lot of hearing loss in left ear. The quads are volume conrolled on each ear cup so you can turn one way up and the other a bit lower.

Another thought, order a pair from Cabella's; if not satisfied that they are what you want you can return them, no questions asked.

Let us know how you make out.

I use Pro-Ears or Peltor. Have a set of Peltor's with built in 2-way radio with boom mic. They are great as they do it all. Amp for hearing, shut down for the shot, radio to keep in contact with others.
