want to have someone to make my vz24 8mm into a 308

Im look for a low cost round for when the shtf and a all around good hunting gun. I love the 8mm Mauser but its getting hard to find and not many bullet options out there. If i put a 308 on it ammo will never be hard to find.

Think about it.

After you buy some dies, 8mm-06 is the cheapest way to go. You have an infinite supply of cheap brass. And you simply have the chamber punched out (versus getting a whole new barrel if you go .308)...........

Convinced me! I know what I'm doing with my M47 now. Got a good guy local to do it too!

Mines an 8mm. But I will admit that my history on these rifles is shaky at best. There seems to be a lot of misinformation on the M47's out there. I have been told that mine was converted to a sniper rifle by the isreali's and then crated to never being fielded. And I've been told that the isreali's never converted any of the rifles, that it was done by a third party and so on and so on. So who knows.

Yes, I don't know much about them myself. I do know that every M47 I've heard of was a 30-06. Usually it is the 8mms that are converted to 30-06 or 8mm-06. Not the other way around.

I think the "JS" is just a standard 8mm Mauser loaded with a different(military) ammo or bullet.........

The original Mauser 88 was made with a .318" bore.

The 98's were made with a .323" bore. The.323" bore is called the "JS" bore - all modern 8x57 ammo is JS - no one makes .318" ammo.

American 8x57 is loaded very light, in case it is fired in a .318" bore.

So don't worry, be happy

Yep, they changed the bore size also, and the powder, and the bullet.

One thing I do know, is even though many say "Mauser 88", it is incorrect. The original 88 (Gewehr) was actually a Mannlicher design, not Mauser. To the best of my (limited) knowledge, IIRC, Mauser did not design it, nor produce it.

Years ago at a military/gun show, an old timer corrected my bud when he said "nice Mauser 88". The old curmudgeon (no, it wasn't Charlie

) replied back, "That Gewehr is a Mannlicher design. Nothing Mauser about it." Don't know why, but it stuck..........

I really want to find another 8mm Mauser to just keep. My local payn shop has piles of European ammo that is cheap. I still have about 200 rounds of the 196 gr ammo

well im having a hard time find a smith to do anything more then clean. im going to tool up this tax season and do it my self im not dead set on the 308 yet. 8mm-06 sounds fun
