Warm Weather fox calling????

Fox season opens here in Maryland on the 1st of Nov. Its been in the high 70's the last few days and high 60's at night. I dont seem to have much luck when its warm. Anyone else notice this???? If anyone else has this happen lets hear why you think its so. I have plenty of fox, I see one everytime I go bowhunting.....could kill them easy from a treestand but nightvision and a caller is more fun. Thanks for reading this.

I will answer your question after I give it the ole college try tomorrow morning and evening. Nov 1st is opening day for foxes here in Virginia as well. The weather is predicted to be unseasonably warm too. I will give it a try during the twilight hours at dusk and dawn. I prefer those shooting hours as opposed to when lights or nightvision is needed. Less gadgets to carry!

WISH ME LUCK! Been waitin on this.

Good Question. I've been wondering the same thing. I'm going either way, but I like it alot cooler for calling. I'm sure some of these guys can tell us what we need to hear. Good luck tommorow.

its been warm in Pa too and i havent had much luck. the only time i seem to be getting any fox to respond to calling is late beween 2 - 5 am. maybe cause its cooler then, or maybe cause theyre just more active late, i dont know but dusk has yet to produce anything but housecats and the occasional deer checking things out.

I'd rather waffle a housecat than a Fox anyway...here are my thoughts on the subject, I just wanted to hear some other ideas. I would guess that most of the time a Foxes main food supply is field mice{various species}, which can be mighty hard to find in the dead of winter. Maybe they hibernate when it gets cold or the harsh weather kills off the weak ones. Mice are easier for a fox to catch than rabbits and I'm sure in the wild there are more mice. Foxes will eat anything they can find thats edible and I'am gonna guess again and say they probably have alot of choices this time of the year. When it gets cold a fox is not only burning more energy but unable to get hardly any of the food thats available now so a sqealing rabbit is "something to run for." What could make it even worse is that mice are starting to actively gather food so they are moving alot and are everywhere. If what I am guessing is true it may be hard to call up a well fed fox this early in the season!!!!! I tried several times to go out and call up a fox last spring {after the weather broke and it was warming up} but was unsucessful, not a single fox came to the call. It's not like I cant do it because we killed over 50 last year. I also did'nt kill them all out of the area I was calling in because I heard several grays barking there at different times. This is what prompted me to try calling{just for fun.} One would think that if warm weather calling works for other predators it would work on foxes too????? Anyone else got any ideas/experiences????? Thanks for the replys, good luck.

We went out last night and made 2 1/2 stands and got one grey and a couple owls to come in (I always like to see owls or hawks coming because it makes me feel we're doing something right). I say 2 1/2 because 2 of my friend's coon dogs treed 50 yards away about 10 minutes into the stand. I guess 1 is better than nothing. Sure did feel funny predator hunting with mosquitos buzzing around. Looking forward to going again. It's supposed to be cooler this weekend. That will be nice.

Warm weather dont seem to effect the way they respond here. The only thing that hurts here is the wind blowing hard. The greys seem to resond fine no matter what the temp is. Well, should say that as long as its not 80 deg. Early season here the temps run in the 60 deg range and warmer sometimes. I like it cold but I take what I can get. The bugs suck though.

I spend alot of time hunting greys at night, I get away from the rabit sounds and run the grey fox pup tape alot, or run bird destress alot to. Sometimes I run the bird destress till the end of the stand and then run the pup tape for 10 Min or so before I call the stand off and move. Grey fox pup works well at the first of the season and after the season goes on the dont respond to it as well, I go all destress then.
