hmmmm redrider - (Edited to remove irrelevant information)

I hate to give this advice but, you can do a search for this type of information and you will get TONS of information.

This is getting to be sorta funny. Okay jump back up into the "Predator Masters Hunt" forum, expand your date selection section to 1 year and you will see bunches of posts. Most of them will be about last years hunt. Read 'em and all the information you could want will be there. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Welcome redrider. I'll try to answer your questions.

Yes there are a lot of people hunting coyotes in WA. It appears to be increasing in popularity. Years ago I didn't know anyone that called. Now there are several local callers.

Puppy and kitten distress sounds have worked well for me in the past. In fact "pup-distress" has been one of the most effective sounds I use. In the past pup distress was used mostly after a shot. Myself and many other callers I have spoke with have had good luck using it mixed with distress as a primary call. Works for me anyway.

I have not used the kitten sounds much. The jury is still out for me on that sound. Many have said it works great. So far my luck has been mixed with it.
I think when I use it more it will probably prove itself.

WA. has a large and expanding coyote population. Anyplace that looks like it holds coyotes...probably does. Finding them is relatively easy. Stop at some places you plan on hunting and do some scouting first. Park the rig and take a walk down some dusty or muddy roads, trails, or any other surface that shows tracks well. Coyotes love forest and farm roads to travel and will use then regularly at night. Look for "scat" (turds) /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif . They will normally be very dark in color. Bobcat scat looks similar but is more segmented. You will usually know within a few hundred yards if the place is worth calling.

The PM Hunt you speak of is being held in AZ. November 1-3. It is a gathering of like minded souls. If yer going let me know. I'd like to catch a ride. I can't drive far without falling asleep but I don't snore! LOL /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Hey Curt,

thanks for taking the time to school up someone new to the sport (and to chat rooms). I am very interested in getting some critters, I reload, go to the range often, got my my deer and elk tag, put in for doe/cow tags. I fish and I used to bird hunt alot as a kid, I have only shot one deer though, but now I am hooked. I love getting out in the woods/dessert. I have a cottontail squealer and a fawn bleat. If I blow the fawn bleat hard I can get a real raspy tone that I think sounds pretty cool. I took a look through the archives and saw that there is quite a group of yoedel dog hunters around various parts of the state. My kid is four years old so I only have so long to learn before I have to start teaching him the way of the woods. I have been doing alot of reading and research on the coyote, and now it's time for action. Maybe we could talk more. Oh, I love to drive and I don't fall asleep!!!!!!!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
