water storage, in a survival situation

I plan to store water for several months in an approved water container. Now here is the question. I'm looking for the additive to the water to allow the stored water to remain algae and contaminate free for those 6 months or so. Every surplus or disaster related web-site I visit has water purifiers and water treatment tablets for contaminated water. None that have a water stabilization additive for stored water.
I did see this additive a while back, but cannot remember where....
It is not the oxygen drops... I know some say a drop or two of bleach per gallon is effective but, if someone knows where I can get this, many thanks!!!!!
Or if you guys and gals know of a better way to go, I'm listening!

Sincerely,
8

As we all know the Mormon community encourages a years supply of food and water. They are told a capful of bleach added to a plastic 55 gallon barrel full of water is sufficient. Water is recycled for new semi-annually.
