weasel trappers

For those of you who target weasels I have questions for you. They logged some of the real big trees off our land(100 acres) and we have a few huge brush piles. By the way, these brush piles are about 2 years old. Do you think they hold any weasel? I know how to make weasel boxes. All I need to know is bait, lure and location. And are there any other set I can use for weasel. I have until next year to figure out effective methods for trapping em. Our trapping season is over in pa except beaver.

i trapped a weasel a few years back and i caught in a coon set i had some berry bait i made my self an topped it with a bit of lure. i have a friend that trapped on in a weasel box. he had 2 footholds in side with a 110 conibear waiting in the back. it made it past the 2 footholds but it didnt make it past the conibear. as for the brush piles yes they will hold weasels but they wont if they are not in the area. i would walk the property looking for tracks in the snow to get ready for next season. also look in rock piles and along creek edges. hope this helps.

foxkillerz,
Thanks for the info. Even though trapping season is over for us I will look for weasel tracks. Is along a creek a good place to put boxes? with some crawfish paste for bait? By the way I have heard of people using the box method for mink, do you no anything about this?

i never heard anything about using it for mink but im sure it would work. i prefer using pocket sets for mink. yes that would be a good place to put the boxes because then you are targeting both mink and weasels. for lure use a musky smelling lure like something with mink glands in it. for bait weasels love a bloody piece of meat especially beaver or muskrat. when you place the a box along a stream make sure it is help down with something to keep coon out of it

I've heard that chicken guts works great for weasels... Also a good weasel box can be made out of say....a large (industrial size) plastic mayo jar.... cut a 1-1/2 to 2" hole in the bottom, then glue a board the length of the jar on one side so that with the jar lying on its side I would now have a level "bottom" you can either put weight beneth the board or you can put some spikes protruding out of the now...so called bottom to hold it in place... If you can, some how put a ( removable )screen inbetween the trap area and the screw off lid to keep mice and or weasel from making off with your bait incase they miss the trap.... Camo paint it to prevent theivery or it being mistaken as litter....use either a #1 longspring or a plain ole' victor rat-trap under the entry hole. Unscrew the lid to rebait, or remove your weasel. Lot lighter than wood boxes! Catches mink too!

good luck
