Hi guys I just got a new weatherby vanguard .223 for the yotes.

I haven't hunted with it yet. I was wondering what they're reputation is when it comes to rifles because I'm not familiar with them. Are they known for having good rifles? If anybody owns one then tell me what you think about it. What are the things you like and don't like?
Thanks.

The vanguards are known to be good shooters generally. Basically a Howa 1500. I've had 3 Mkv's and they've all been good shooters too.

I have not had good luck with Weatherby or Vanguards and sold them. The Vanguard resale was not good.
IMO they need a new trigger and it may help if you reload.
Some guys are content with them but I have to pass after several poor experiences.

They have a good reputation. They are generally overlooked because they are thought to be expensive. That is why I never looked at them. The Mark V was and still is a good rifle when compared to the older vanguards. The series 2 vanguards have some improvements made to them, 3 position safeties, an improved trigger, < 1MOA accuracy guarantee (at 100 yards with premium or Weatherby ammunition) and an improved stock. I recently purchased a Series 2 Vanguard Backcountry in 240 Wby Mag. The trigger is decent (adjustable, but is 2-stage) and the barrel isn't free floating (on most models. Weatherby found that their rifles shoot with a little upward pressure and you will find a pressure pad toward the end of the barrel channel that does this. I thought, "well I will just shoot it first and see what happens" and ****, the thing shoots. The action is very smooth and rifle is very light to boot.

Overall, I think you will be pleased. Those that are not have their reasons, but I think that you will always find someone that has a bad experience with even the best of products. After all, people are responsible for at least some of the process and mistakes are unavoidable.

I had a Weatherby vanguard VGL in 223,it shot very good ,that was the one gun I could run just about ant ammo you picked and it would shoot them all pretty good, definetly good enough for a hunting rifle.I would not hesitate to buy another one.

I have a Mark V in 257 and it is a well built accurate rifle. It shoots the company ammo as good as any reload I have been able to develop. I think the your rifle will serve you well for years to come.
