Weatherby Vanguard .223

I have never tried reloads in my Vanguard after first using the Winchester 45 gr. hollowpoints. They used to be available in a double box at Wal Mart.

From the start those rounds shot mostly 1" or less at 100yards (3 shot groups) and not much different at 200 without any scope adjustments.

The are devestating (almost grotesque) on ground hogs. Those 45's seem to explode on the hogs.

As far as reloading the .223, I have found that low - moderate loads of IMR-4895 and Varget work rather well with 50-55 grain bullets in my other .223's. As a rule I tend not to load at the top of the scale.

Thanks,

I have a Weatherby Vanguard in the discontinued Predator model. It shoots just about any 223 load very good. Now, I don't shoot any 223 bullet heavier than a 55 grain, so don't know what would happen with heavier bullets. If I want to shoot heavier bullets, I'll switch to a 243. As a matter of fact, on a good day, it will shoot as good as any rifle I have. If I have any criticism, it is about the bolt stop screw, as mine recently broke.
