Weatherby Vanguard 30-06 to 25-06?

I have a Weatherby Vanguard 30-06 with a beautiful laminated stock. I have no use for a 30-06 rifle, as I use a 7 mm Remington mag for larger game. My dad gave me the rifle. He won it in a charity raffle. He loves the “look” of the rifle. I’d like to have it re-barreled to 25-06. From what I have read the 25-06 does really well with a 25 to 26 inch barrel. I do not see a lot of factory offerings for this round. Most of the factory offerings are 22 to 24 inches in length. The weather be Vanguard/Howa actions are metric and usually very tightly installed. I have started reading about companies that sell “pre-fit” barrels using a nut similar to a Savage. I am wondering if anybody has any advice for me as to how to get this re-barreled being budget conscious. I don’t want to sell the rifle. I don’t know of a gunsmith I trust to perform this work on this rifle. Any ideas?

Some barrel manufacturer's have gunsmiths to do the rebarrel in house. Kreiger does, not Shure which other ones. I've never had them do one as I have a good Smith local, but very happy with the 4 kreiger barrels he's done for me.

PacNor did my 6x45 thirty years ago, they did a nice job. All my recent ones I've done with nut barrels.

Doing it yourself you'll need an action wrench, barrel vice, headspace gauges and a lot of patients.

I built an action/barrel vice a number of years ago. I built it pretty stout as Savage was still using Olga the Russian shot putter to take tighten barrel nuts.
