Weatherby Vanguard S2 in 22-250?

FROSTYSHOT

Hi everyone I'm new to the Forum and I am taking back up Varmint Hunting after a 30 year break. Previously I hunted in my teens with a Remington Nylon 66 22 loaded with CCI Stingers or a Rem. 1100 with Buckshot. I have never owned a dedicated varmint rig until now. I have a Weatherby series 2 Vanguard chambered in 22-250 with a 1-14 twist on layaway. Just curious who out there may be hunting with the same rifle and what loads you are using and your overall thoughts on the S2. Thanks in advance!

My optic will be a Zeiss Conquest 4.5-14x50 TT.

Sounds like a real nice setup. I have owned several Vanguard's over the years and several 22-250's. It is a great cartridge for coyote hunting. I personally like the 55gr Sierra SBT's and Nosler 55gr BT's. I like other bullets also, but those have worked for me.

Think I'm going to try some Remington 55 gr. soft points and some Barnes TSX in 50 grains. Hopefully they will stabilize in the 1-14".

Finally received my Weatherby today that I had on layaway. I finished mounting the Leupold Base and Rings along with the Zeiss scope a few minutes ago. Heading to the range in the morning!!

Shooting the Weatherby today was very enjoyable. I was impressed with its performance. 1" groups at 100 yards shooting off the hood of my truck with factory Remington 55 grain SP. Probably going to give them a go November 22 for some southern Whitetail action!

Sounds like you have a great set-up. I bought my first vanguard 2 years ago in 25-06 and can't say enough about it. It has a gorgeous wood stock on it and I topped it with a Leupold vx-3 in Leupold rings and bases. It's now my main deer rifle and super accurate with factory ammo. I'm not sure if it's legal in MD to hunt deer with a 22-250 but I think you'll be ok as long as you make a good shot.

P.s. now you have me really wanting to buy another Vanguard
