Weatherby Vanguard

Hey guys I'm looking at purchasing a rifle in .300 Win Mag for the larger stuff like moose and elk and for reaching out and touching critters when it is desirable and I was wondering if the Vanguard would be a good choice considering my limited budget being that it has a lot of features for the money. Any info on the quality of the rifle and how it shoots would be great.

I purchased my first Weatherby, in 30 years of gun buying, just last year. It is the Vanguard sub MAO in 223. Very nice rifle and it is a tack driver out of the box. I was happy with my decision and consider it money well spent.

i have a vanguard in 25-06, classic dark monte carlo stock, and its an excellent rifle, shoots sub moa with no tweaking at all except easing on trigger pull which i did myself. However its 18yrs old, and i dont know if it compares to the newer models because the ones I have looked at dont have the wood quality, but the action should be the same. I would take one instead of a standard ruger or savage any day though!

I've had a few in 300 Weatherby. All stay under 1.5" at 200 yds. Excellent rifle that is smooth as glass. One thing though...300 Windbag? Go with the 300 Weatherby!!!

I have the 300 Win Mag Vanguard VGX with Leupold glass. Bought it in about 1984. Still shoots tight as can be, better than I can shoot. I love everything about it. It's been a great gun. It's killed antelope, black bear, deer, elk, marmot, the occasional chipmunk and cottontail on a really slow hunt... and lots of paper. If I ever have to replace it, it'll be hard to pick anything else. I went with the Win Mag instead of the Weatherby because of the price of ammo, then I started handloading anyway. Still, the Win Mag has outstanding ballistics, and maybe 5% less recoil! Love the gun. Don't have a single complaint.

Thanks for your input guys it is appreciated. I'm going with the .300 Win Mag because the 300 weatherby and 300 RUM are not affordable to shoot. Ammo starts at what, $50 a box not to mention I hunt in places where I wouldnt be able to find those calibers at the local stores in a pinch.

I have a Weatherby Vangard in 300 Wby.Mag purchased from Walmart.Great gun (sub MOA)and as affordable to shoot as the 300Win or close anyway . I buy Rem. 180gr Corelocks from Walmart for $26.95 a box. Hey how many of these big boys do you really shoot in a year's time .I shoot about 4 boxes and I bet I shoot more than most people.I went with the Walmart Special so I could put the stock I wanted on.I went with a Bell and Carlson Medalist and its been great. My trigger seems OK but I have read a few posts from guys complaining they couldn't get adjustment below 3 pounds. My only complaint is these guns are heavy but after about 10 rounds of 300 Wby. I'm glad for the weight.

I bought the Vanguard Sub MOA in .300 win mag about two months ago and it really shoots tight right out of the box. I am really pleased with the gun. I put a VX III Leupy 3.5-10x50 on it and it works great. I think the Sub MOA is worth the extra few bucks.

i love my weatherby vanguard sporter .270 nice action nice wood great shot but not a big fan of the 24" barrle a 22" would be alot better but what can you do. also you must get the vanguard tally rings they are the best fit you can buy.

I don't own a weatehrby but I do have a Howa 1500 same action. Its smooth as glass I would own more guns on this action. Its also a shooter(sub moa)I will be looking for Weatehrby Vangaurd rifles in the future.
