Does anyone know much about the weatherby vanguard series?

I have pretty much made my mind up to get a tikka t3 lite rifle but my buddy says I need to get the weatherby. I think they are priced about the same. Any thoughts?

Yes, my thoughts are buy the Tikka.

I owned a Howa 1500 for a bit. It was a good shooter after a Timney trigger was installed, as factory trigger on the 1500 is junk. Can't really bash the Howa, but.................

The Vangard is a Howa or vise versa. Howa is OK, but is no Tikka.

Vanguards are a bargain for the price. I know there are a lot of Tikka fans here (tryin' to be nice!), but they are not as much rifle for the money, and IME don't shoot quite as well either. The VG is built more like a rifle should be built, and the Tikka more of an improvization...VG's will outshoot their more expensive cousins (Weatherby's), the same cannot be said of Tikkas (Sakos).....2MG

I have two Howa 1500's(Same manufacturer as Weatherby
Vanguard), and I have two Tikkas. I won both of the Howas,
at DU Banquets, and I purchased the Tikkas. Yes the Howas
are accurate, but not as consistently accurate as my Tikkas.
In general, the Tikkas have been much easier to find
accurate loads, than the Howas. The Tikkas triggers are
slightly better than the Howa triggers, although the last
Howa I won, has a pretty sweet trigger, too. The bolt
action on the Tikkas are MUCH smoother than the Howas. And
this last Howa seems to have a little rougher barrel, as it
cleans up harder, but I have not gotten it broken in yet,
either. I will say that the hand lapped Tikka barrels, don't
collect copper, and clean up much quicker than my Howa
barrels.

FWIW, I am not selling/trading my Howas, but if it was my
money, I would buy a Tikka.

lol, and i guess i should break the news to my howa 1500 7mm mag that it is shooting way too good... it have no trouble touching 5 shot groups at 100 yrds if i do my part and i should have missed my doe last year at 517 yrds.. lol...

Oh, Goody!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

It's only January 2nd, and we're already having the year's first "What I bought is gold...What you bought sucks because I'm smarter and didn't buy it...." discussion.

Surely a 17 HMR/coyote debate has to be appearng shortly. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

Happy New Year everyone..... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-006.gif

Did I miss any new revelations that I should have known about in 2006? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-006.gif

I wonder if the 100+ coyotes I've shot with my Weatherby Vanguard knew what a piece of crap the rifle was.

I must have missed something. Who said a Howa/Weatherby
Vanguard was a "piece of crap"?

I have 4 Vangard/Howa guns . All were shooters out-of-the box and very cost effective .There are plenty of after market parts for them if you want to jaz them up. These are good guns for the money.

Or it could very well be the .22 mag vs. .17 hummer argument that appears on rimfirecentral.com all the time. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
