Weems wildcall

There was a post elsewhere on this site that asked how we got started calling, and it got me to wondering what happened to the old call that my dad gave me 25 years ago. So I started sort of lookin around and I found it. This call was one of my dads old calls at the time so I'm wondering just how old it is.

It has a label painted on it with a fox at the top and says:
Weems wildcall
CALLS-FOXES, WOLVES, AND CATS
P. O. BOX 7261 - FORT WORTH 11. TEX

Written just like that. Anybody know anything about it? I don't think that the address is still good.

The Weems are not made anymore. My calling partner has one that he's had since he was in high school. It's his favorite call. I just recently got another one for him off of e-bay that was in the original box, with the original instruction sheet, and even a price tag for $3.99 at Hoods Sporting Goods in Fort Worth, TX on the box. They are a little bit higher pitched than my Lohman (at least to my ears, which aren't really all that good), and will definitely call coyotes if there are any around to be called. This may or may not be what you wanted, but this is what little I know about Weems calls.

If you ain't having fun, why bother doin' it?

Daryl,

Direct this question to Al or Jay. They have allot of knowledge in this Weem's department. Not to mention they both like to help out when they can.

I would have to see the decal and box it came in to be sure. Actual shape of call has a lot to do with it too. The zip code was implemented on July 1, 1963. The "11" in the address represents the northeast portion of Fort Worth where the Weems Company was located. Later models dropped the "11" off the decal. The box and instructions are good indicators of when the call was sold and not so much as to when the call was made. Many calls were shipped out in available boxes. The boxes had several different addresses which reveals a time period. The actual call was most likely made in '58 to '62. The decal is probably yellow and green oval shape with a "tit" on the bottom. It was not uncommon for decals to cover other decals. If the WildCall has a tapered hole in the outlet end, your call is a later model. Even newer WildCalls had a vinyl decals but no new modifications were made to the call itself. Check carefully to see if the decal is placed on the wrong side of the call. If it is, then you have a rare find.

Jay,

Thanks for all the info. I don't have the box or anything like that, just the call. I used it for a lot of years after my dad gave it to me but it still works good. The call itself is in pretty good shape and you are right about most of the label decription. The bottom of the label is covered by the address box, which is flat on top and bottom and boat shaped on each end. I will take a picture of it and post it here in the next day or two.

Busta-Yote,

You are right, the cats and coyotes can't seem to resist this one of mine either. I'm not even sure why I quit using it. Must have wanted to try something new and then something else and then...

I'm going to use it again next fall to get a few things just for fun.

Thanks again and y'all take care,

If any of you frequent the go go varmint board, check there. There is a post tonight about the Weems wild call being made again. Don't remember the fellows name, but he supposedly has them.
