West Central Utah Report

I went out on Wednesday and called in West central Utah. I started by Cove Creek West of Cove Fort. I called 8 times, trying to walk close to a mile away from the road. I called in one that came down wind of me in cedars, I did not see him but I caught is tracts coming out. I saw where he took off when he was down wind of my stand location. His tracks crossed mine and I would have seen them on the way in. I heard a few howling, but saw very little sign. I drove 375 miles, killed two jackrabbits with my truck. Man it seems like there is not much of anything out in that country. No deer, elk, antelope and few coyotes. Does anyone else call that area? Maybe next time. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Sounds about right to me. I've covered a lot of ground and haven't found a track or one bit of sign. Maybe the nuclear fallout from NV killed 'em all off?

Weasel-UT, I was wondering if you would respond, I think I asked you about that area last year and you told me it was not great. I guess I have to learn for myself. It is good looking country, just not much alive.

Oh yeah, it's beautiful country alright. It's just devoid of wildlife. If and when you do find the critters, they'll be concentrated in a small area. Something very odd is happening.

I have done well by West of Holden but nothing south west of that. Are you serious about something weired going on? I did find a nice ranch by the highway between Milford and Delta somewhere by Blackrock that had a bunch of geese and ducks on theer ponds, and I did see a lot of Jacks, but I would think there would be antilope, Chuckers (there might be) and more coyote sign.

Weasel-UT, you're right about the nuclear stuff here in nevada. There are no coyotes at all. Once you get within 30 miles of the Utah/Nevada border all the game just disappears; no coyotes to hunt over here in Nevada at all. You guys are definitely better off staying in Utah. hee hee hee!!!!

I did see a two headed wild horse out there. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif Ever notice how your boots glow in the dark after walking around out in the desert?

Man thats alot of miles to drive for two jackrabbits......
I have always had pretty good luck around the CoveFort area, especially when there is snow on the ground. Here is a pic of a CoveFort yote.
