Whacking and Stacking Coyotes: KC Ep.63

This hunt features one of my favorite areas. A rancher asked me to hunt his property last year and got additional farmers and ranchers in the area to allow me access. Extra land means more stands and also means I hunt it more frequently.

I had sent him a text at the beginning of the week saying I would be around one night during the week. At the end of the video, is a quad that I shot within 800 yards of his farmstead. I texted him the next day and sent him this video.

He told me he had discovered the pile of coyotes the next day, so he knew I had been around. I wasn't sure if he was going to be upset that I had left them in his field. He just laughed at the thought and said he doesn't care what I do with the coyotes as long as they are dead, and then thanked me for hunting.

Yea Joey, I second that.

Kirsch, does any critters eat dead coyotes up there. Nothing touches them except buzzards here and since the buzzards left in mid-November they will just lay where we leave them until it warms up enough for them to decompose.
AS always very good and thanks.

Besides this, maybe some type of scavenger birds.

Thanks for the kind words.

Hopefully the conditions will improve soon. Thanks for keeping the canned footage so we can keep enjoying the show. Some really fine shooting here in this one.

The second coyote on the first stand sure was distracted easily by something. He was on a mission until then.

Hopefully you can get out soon with the warming temps.

You make it look easy buddy! I got out tonight for the first time in 2 weeks, got one and got winded by another in two stands. The snow and wind sucked the last 2 weeks but this week looks pretty decent and we can still get around pretty well.

Hopefully you can get out soon with the warming temps. It must have ran across a mouse or some rodent to stop like that. It was almost in my wind, so the reason I stopped it shortly after it started again. The yardage on that shot is wrong. I noticed this after it was already published on Youtube. It was over 200 yards, but since it was posted, I didn't wanted to pull the video when I noticed it.

It is supposed to warm up. The blocked roads and deep snow everywhere are what have me concerned. I will know more soon.

The weather is changing today as a South wind is bringing in some warmer temps. Congrats on your coyote and hopefully we both will get out more soon.

Another good hunt Kirsch. I sold some a couple weeks ago. A whole 5.00 average. Lucky for me I like to put them up and they look good dried. I would be surprised if you couldn’t average 20. Gas money. Lol

I am sure I could have gotten some money for them, but it just isn't worth the time and effort to drag them back to truck and get them to my fur buyer for the prices currently.

Is coyote fur, if it doesn't have mange, worth about $20? But do you leave the carcass to decompose in the fields or do you take it to the incinerator?

In these days you have been hit by a terrible storm of ice and snow. We have seen on TV that there have been many victims stuck in cars or even inside the frozen house. I hope you are all well dear American hunter boys.

The Northern United States tend to have coyotes with heavier fur, but even they are not all equal. The fur buyers tend to like the coyotes in the North Dakota and Montana area and into Canada. These coyotes are more of a white color they call "pale coyotes". Even for these typically prized coyotes, the market is very low. A person can skin, flesh, stretch and dry the coyote pelt and try to sell them or there are people who buy the entire animal. They do all the work of removing the pelt and dispose of the remains.

Since the price is so low this year, I have not been selling coyotes and have been leaving the carcasses to decompose. Other coyotes and some carnivorous birds eat at the carcasses also.

I gave the last 2 to my fur buyer. He is going to tan them and make coyote fur mitts out of them. He's not buying any unless really nice - ( pale coyote ). Price just suck for everyone.
