Kris,I read an article just a while ago, I believe in predator extreme, about using quail and other bird sounds. I believe their conclusion was that you may get a curious coyote to come in but they didn't think you would have one charge you. They suggested trying to find an area where birds are present, start out calm and work your way up like the bird is being disturbed. This is just from memory I don't have the article. Maybe someone else has read this and will add a post to see if I got the jist.
