I have decided i am going to get an AR rifle. I am looking at the Olympic arms K16 or the K8. I am going to use it to plink and do some hunting with it. Dont plan on shooting no more than 300 yards with it/ although 90% of the shots will be 150 yards or less. I want a heavy barrel. Should i get a whole rifle or buy the lower and upper seperate

thanks guys

I bought my first AR this year so I am no expert but the bushmaster predator with 60gr sierra varminters and 26gr varget will shoot 1\2 goups all day it has 20 inch barrel and weighs 8lbs.It shoots as good as 2 of my custom rifles.

I have a DPMS with a 16" bull barrel and a 2-7x scope that shoots extremely accurate groups at 100yds. Of my three .223 ARs, I think it is my favorite.

I should be getting my AR from Mike at DTECH next week. If customer service and expert opinion is important to you, you can't go wrong with a DTECH. I can let you know soon how it shoots, but if it's any thing like 20-30 more on this forum, it'll be a great shooter. You can have it built to your specs for about the same price as a new gun from the factory. Seems like a pretty good deal to me!

I went through this last year and got an Armalite. No regrets. There have been several good ones mentioned here. That new RRA predator pursuit sounds interesting. The Les Baer has to be the nicest feeling, smoothest operating AR I have ever laid hands on. But you pay for it.

Ditto That! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif Get the best you can afford.

Its not so much the manufacturer, as suiting the upper to your needs. I've owned uppers from 3 different companies, and they have all been first rate. NO problems with anyone.

Get yourself to the gunstore, and handle different AR's. You will be surprised at how different a 16 and 20 incher balance out, especially with a bull barrel. Make sure what you pick is what you want. Keep in mind that gun will be alot heavier with a loaded mag, and scope and mount.

For your needs I'd recommend a standard 16 inch upper to keep weight down from the Maker of you choice.

LazyD or Dtech are easy to contact, and can definately take you next level.

One thing I've quickly learned is you will most likely end up with a few different uppers /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I will second your choice on the Olympic Arms K-16 or K8. Whole Lotta Gun for less money. They make most parts for alot of the other more expensive brands as well as themselves(they are one of about three mfg. that make 90% of their parts for their rifles instead of contracting the parts out. Colt, Olympic and ? are the only ones). I believe Dtech uses their platform for his uppers so take that for what it's worth. With the money you save on an Olympic Arms you can outfit your gun with good glass and a good case before you even reach the base price of most other complete AR15's. I don't understand the throwing money away to get the same gun from someone else just to have a snake or a crosshairs rollmarked on your lower. Go with the Oly, you won't be dissapointed.

This headshot (yes, aiming DOB at the head) was at 124 yds.

The K8 going to run about $400 cheaper than the bushy predator. The predator's real sought after right now and, at least in my neck of the woods, they're going for retail price. The K8 is essentially the same gun as the predator, except it's not fluted.
