What are coon cuffs?

I have heard about them, but still don't know exactly how they work? Do you need any lure? What to use for bait? If you would have any for sale please look at my post in classifieds, "Coon cuffs for sale"? Any help would be great. Thanks -CoyoteFlipper243-

Knee deep in brass!

Well I don't have any for sale, but I can try answer your question. They're a metal tube that is capped on one end. The coon has to stick his arm down in and either push or pull the trigger at the bottom. The original coon cuffs name brand I believe is a push down trigger. My buddy has a knock-off version where they have to pull up on the trigger. Theres a spring loaded metal loop type hook thingy at the open end of the pipe that grabs they're arm and holds it inside the tube. There is almost zero chewing because the caught part is encased in the tube. All the traditional baits work, jack mackerel, marshmallows etc. Some people set them up like dirt holes, but the hole is the trap buried in the bank. My buddy just baits and stakes his and drops them on the ground and leaves them lay. He's had pretty good success this way and it's faster than digging a hole.

the Ones I had weren't tubes.. Mine were about 3 inch. square made of metal.with metal parts inside and they worked ok. I also had some EGG traps, same Idea but you didn't have to Bury them. they were a fiberglass looking material and shaped like a big Acorn. Plastic trigger inside. Just the color and shape would attract coons. They were kinda Mean to set though. but toss a marshmellow or 2 in it and they were deadly! Also the coon cuffs had chains on them , the Egg trap used a small cable to secure them to a tree or stake of some kind.. I just gave away my last Egg trap to a guy on this site. I'm not sure they even make them anymore. For bait you could use little marsh mellows or candy in it.. good luck
