What are the benefits of a FIXED power scope?

just wondering if you gain anything by going with a fixed power scope, looking at 4x and 6x for 200yrds and less. pros cons???
Thanks

There's appeal for keeping it simple. I agree, for a short range gun like a plinking 22lr or a fighting AR or a brush gun for example. There's nothing to adjust, no moving parts, etc. The magnification and holdover is always the same.

For 100-200 yard shots (or further) in more open country I'd prefer the option to zoom in a little even if I don't use it much. 3x-9x is popular for just that reason.

Less lenses equals less obstructions for light to pass through. That equals a brighter picture.
As stated, hold over is the same all the time with a fixed power optic, but it's pretty moot with 200 yd shots, especially if you only have a duplex or cross hair style reticle.

So if you had a straight 4 power scope and a variable 4-12 scope, both with 40mm objectives, the 4-12 on 4 power would gather more light than the straight 4?
