What Autoloading 12 guage Shotgun?

I am looking for an autoloading shotgun for doves, waterfowl, and varmint, Some say there is no better shotty under 1k than the Winchester Super X3, I have seen it in action shot by a professional and it looks tempting, however I need something that me and the Mrs. Can enjoy, she is definitely recoil sensitive, however because of that I don't want to get anything smaller than a 12guage. I feel that this might pass as it may be a phase. On the same note my 16yr daughter want's to shoot too, so getting my girls to shoot means the world to me so I NEED something for recoil sensitive shooters. Any recommendations?

Please advise.

I would say a Benelli M2 Field would be a good option. Gander Mountain usually has the synthetic models for just under $1k. Mine has them for $979. I don't like the X3's at all, but to each his own.

Fitting a full grown man and a 16 yr. old girl to the same shotgun is going to be a chore. Check out the Browning Auto's, super low recoil and great dependable guns. 3" slugs out of my Gold Hunter feel like nothing. Used Browning Golds can be found for $6-700 around here. I was lucky a few years ago and picked mine up for $550.

If you have the $ for two guns. That would be the correct way to go for your daughter and wife. You can still get them a 12 gauge, but in a more compact model.

Atkins,

I just looked at the local shop here and they have the M2's In semicamo whatoranother, for 949.00. I dunno if that is a good price.. There is one thing that I can't stand about Winchester, they are for the most part chinese made..

i know this is going to sound crazy but i have owned benelli stoeger winchester and remington and i would not trade the mossberg 935 i am shooting now for all the rest combined. hated the benelli it was great if u only high brass but during dove season we shoot low brass shells. and u cant beat the price. of the 935 can almost buy two for what u can buy one of the others

The Moss935? Really? Wow, first time i hear this,

First and foremost you need to shoot what points naturally for you. I happen
to fit an 1187 remington best out of all the autoloaders I have shot. I have
a browning double in 20 gauge that I don't shoot much that I have never seen
a miss with. It just points where ever I look. I do have my eyes peeled for a
12 gauge in the same gun. Bring a few boxes of shells to a trap club and
ask some of the guys if you may try their guns. Most will oblige you.

This is a good idea make it a day at the range.. The 1187 is a nice shotty no doubt though.

The Benelli M2 is topnotch IMHO. Followed closely by the Beretta gas guns. The Winchester SX3 is made in Belgium in the Browning/FNH plant there. My son has a SX3 and it seems to be a good gun. I wouldn’t trade either of my Benelli’s off for any of them though. The one that fits you is the best one once you reach these quality performance levels.

I handled the super black eagle and it's awesome to say the least but 1499.00 I DUNNO, i can pay lots or rifles with that cash.. lol

The M2 is super nice but didn't like the black action/barrel and camo stock set.

Looking for solid black and/or solid camo

Oh yeah!

If you can find you a nice clean Rem 1100 with a modified choke and a ventilated rib you got yourself a shotgun!

I love my 870 Wingmaster, but would gladly swap it and a bit of coin for a fine 1100. One of the best autoloaders that Remington, or anyone else for that matter, has ever made.

Juanjo,
Well make it two times. I would not trade my 935 for and SBE II. And yes, I do or have owned and shot most of them.

That being said, based on what you are intending the gun to be used for, I would look at a Mossberg 930, Remington 1187, Benelli M2, Win SX, in that order. If your were looking for a 2 3/4 only gun I would point you to the 1100 first.

If your looking for a gun that the wife and kids (sons or daughters) can shoot be sure to get a 3" max gun. NO 3 1/2" gun will reliably cycle light 2 3/4" shells out of the box and without some work. Heavy 2 3/4" shells are too much to teach women and kids to shoot with. Try to find some 7/8 oz loads to start them off with. If you scare them the first time you will not get them back.

Good luck,

B

Can you guys pm pics of your 935 rigs.. cause when someone says they would not trade a moss for a benelli, it's a bold statement to say the least.. I have the Mossberg 2009 buyers guide and catalog.. and they are very impressive shotty's

Well I feel the Benelli semis are some of the best out there, but if your wife and daughter are recoil shy or might be, then the Benelli is not the choice IMO. Since it's recoil operated, it does have a bit more felt recoil than a gas operated unit. I would look for a gas op. model, and I have to agree the sx3 or even a little older used Browning gold. The Remingtons are also a solid choice, I have had experience with all three of these. I won't comment on the Mossbergs since I personally don't have experience with them so I don't feel I'm qualified to help there. I think your absolute best bet though, is to try to find 2 different shotguns, a 12ga for you and a smaller guage for your wife and daughter. I have a question to ask you though, why is it you are set on 12ga? The 20ga is very capable in most situations, and even if you can't afford 2 shotguns at first the 20 will suit most hunting situations very well and keep your wife and daughter interested in pursuing the sport. There are many times when I would much rather have my trusty 20 in my hands than my 12ga! Pretty much the only time I use the 12 is late season waterfowling for geese, and I'm pretty sure the 20 would be fine there too.
