what barrel lenght for 300 blackout build?

SP10

I would like to rebarrel my savage 516 striker to 300 blackout for deer hunting in Illinois and was wondering what barrel length is best for this round. It has a 14" 223 barrel now.

I'm not sure, but the way I understand it this blackout caliber is outstanding even in a short barrel, so I'd not worry about it too much. Go to www.300blackout.org I think it is, and it has info there about the round and reloading, etc,. Hope that helped you. Oh, by the way, I saw on Savage's website that they have a rifle called the 'Scout' I think it is that is made in both Blackout 300 or the 7.62 X 39..

Im building a XP in a 30Bellm going 15". Also for IL hunting. Bellm has a little more ump.

To get the most in the shortest length barrel is 15". You can also shoot 7.62x33 is also legal

I would go with a barrel in the 6-12 inch range, depending on how it fits your stock.

Most of the data is from 9 inch or 16 inch barrels. Since this is a pistol, 9 sounds good.

This is how the new "Black Tip" Barnes does at 300 yards from a 9 inch - 24 inches of bare-10% gel penetration and more than 50 caliber expansion:
