What can I hunt in UTAH?

Well my wife and I are coming to Utah to camp in the Moab area the weekend of the 21st...that means I won't be turkey hunting in Colorado that weekend...

3 years ago, when were were camping in the Moab area, I found a group of turkeys, so I thought hey...maybe I can get out one or two mornings for turkey on this trip...BUT ihave some questions.

Based on my looking at the Utah game and fish site, it looks like turkey is a limited draw only hunt...is that the case, or can I get a tag over the counter/on line?

Next question...if I can't shoot turkey, can I hunt coyotes or prarie dogs without a license, or do I need a Small game tag?

Any help would be great.
Thanks

You are correct, turkey is a draw only tag.
but you can hunt all the coyotes you want with no license.
As for the prairie dogs i do know there is a season on them and i am not quite sure when it starts, hope somebody else can fill you in on them.

Last time I checked you didnt need a tag for yotes, I called the local Sheriff out of Moab, another time we stopped in the Utah DOW office in price and they said the same thing. That was a couple years ago though, it might be worth checking out anyways before you go, it may have changed. Theres lots of open ground south of Moab /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif I have always wanted to head down there but never had the chance.

We will be camped on the big bend East of Moab...Lots and Lots of open ground in the hills south of the campground. Last time I was there, I went for a 7AM walk, and came across a small group of turkeys, and 2 rattle snakes. The snakes were too cold to get the shakes...the turkeys looked at me like I was an exhibit in the zoo..."Never seen one of those heavyset red head, bearded critters before"...ya they were makeing snide comments...and I was wishing I had a shtogun...

Oh well I will settle for a calling session or two...Thanks for the info...

Darby if I find a yote or two, maybe we can go back in MAY, maybe Satch would join us...

Thanks again

Looks like I will be there out of season for prairie dogs.......????.....Oh well Yotes are more fun any way...I'll bring the calling rifle, and my mouthcalls, and see what comes to the "dinner bell". Thanks again for all the help...

Sounds like we may need to round up the Colorado, Utah and Nevada PM folks and others and do a hunt...its a little closer than Globe for me...maybe late fall, November???

**Looks like I will be there out of season for prairie dogs.......????.....**

It gets worse....in my county the black tipped(or black tailed)prairie dog is PROTECTED......I swear this is true.Whenever I build a house here,I have to get a prairie dog clearance from the F&G.....saying I'm not wrecking a PD dwelling........

As has been mentioned,no liscense,no season closure for yotes.Have fun in Moab,I just got back.
