What causes gas rings to keep wearing out?

I shot less than 1000 rounds through my R15, yet this is the 3rd time I've had to replace the gas rings on the bolt. The first set of rings lasted to about 500 rounds, the second set only 300+ rounds before it started short stroking and failing the gas ring test.

What can cause excessive wearing of gas rings?

My Thoughts..
1. Is it my reloaded ammo? (I'll admit, my 55 vmax/ 24.1 gr of Xterminator is .6 grains over the newly published max). However, I don't get pressure signs with this load with the exception of a swiped case everyonce in great while.

2. Is the inside of my bolt carrier rough and wearing the rings faster than normal? After I install new rings, it feels "grainy" as I push the bolt in and out of the carrier.

3. Maybe I don't lube the rings often enough?

Many of my friends have shot 2-3k rounds and have never had a problem.. why me? Rings are cheap and easy to replace.

Ideas?

You can try polishing the inside of your bolt carrier, but if it's chrome lined (like it's supposed to be), you won't accomplish very much.

Too much gas is the usual culprit, especially with carbine-length gas systems.

The absence of a gas piston system can cause gas ring wear. LOL

Seriousely, one word, Friction. DI ARs need lots of lube.
