What choke with steel shot?

The choke should state on it that it is ok to use with Steel. Now the question, Why #2 and why steel shot? Both are poor performers for coyotes in my opinion.

what is better? we can only use down to bb size(.180) legally in oklahoma wich limits me. i have no 4 turkey loads and no 2 steel here at the house. what would be better to buy?

I would look for some copper coated lead BB or heavi shot BB. Both safe to shoot in your jellyhead. Make sure to pattern your gun before heading out to try and kill something with it.

I agree!
Hevi-Shot /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif BB or "Dead Coyote"(size T)

Goergia joe, i talked to a gamewarden and everything larger than .180 is not legal in oklahoma wich means dead coyote size t(.20) is not actually legal here although they sell it everywhere. i would hate to get fined over somethin like that.

Good advise above, pattern your gun with either copper plated lead BB or Remington HD-BB. The HD is the better load, but cost more. Remington does have a $15.00 rebate on the HD shot, so that helps considerably. A choke of about .670" - .680" should work really well. But only time on the range with chokes, loads, and pattern paper will actually tell you what works best. It is like sighting in a rifle - it is exactly that important.

.655" will probably blow the pattern and shoot a "donut pattern." That looks like a halo around the target - not good. Also, the HD is somewhat harder than lead and I wouldn't risk a magnum load of shot as large as BB in such a tight choke. In fact, I probably wouldn't shoot a magnum load of lead BB through that tight choke.

i need to find out what size my factory turkey choke on my stoeger m2000 is. the jellyhead patterns great with winchester #4 and #5 turkeyloads. i also have a full choke that came with the guns so will try them all this weekend

je4bowhuntin,

The Sportsmans Warehouse in OKC usually carries Federal 3" lead BB. Last time I purchased some, it was about $27/box.

I would try a wad wizzard choke for steel shot produces a dense tight pattern and also shortens your shot string by stripping the wad at the end of the choke. I have had great sucess with this choke on waterfowl. It also preforms great with buckshot. Check out there web site to read more.

You can use any choke for steel as long as it's no tighter then imp. mod. Mod. is full choke w/steel and imp. mod. is extra full. Any lead shot has way more knock down power then steel.
