A couple of years back, I got to watch a coyote lock on to a Whirling Woodpecker, come to it on the run and then saw and heard him bite the decoy. It's one of those things that you see and don't forget. The coyote didn't get the decoy, but he is no longer with us. After seeing this, I went to a local chain store and picked up a couple of those lawn ornaments with the wings that spin in the wind. A quick visit to the local Radio Shack for some parts and after a bit of time, I had a bluejay decoy that did the same thing. As was mentioned earlier, a feather on a string works well too.
