What is/was the most accurate rifle out of the box?

You pose an interesting question, Doug. One that is sure to generate a lot of different opinions. It got me to thinking though. Just how important is "out of the box" accuracy? Now of course we all want the smallest groups we can get. But imagine three different rifles. The first one shoots a dime sized group from a bench rest at 100 yards and cost a thousand bucks. The second one shoots a quarter sized group (costs 750 bucks) and the third one shoots a silver dollar sized group(costs 500 bucks). All three are more than accurate enought to get the job done. Is it worth to spend the extra bucks on a further degree of accuracy? Different people will come to different conclusions about that. For me though, I buy as much rifle as I can afford and then PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE shooting it under circumstances similar to what I'll encounter in the field. Doing that, I feel like I can overcome any limitations the gun may have as far as out of the box accuracy. Just my .02

All my Savage rifles shoot really well. I am also partial to Savage because they do not have to re-tool to produce rifles for Left Eye dominant folks. Their Left Eye dominant rifles are standard tooling! Wide range of calibers and models. Accuracy and value for the money! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bowingsmilie.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I'd say my Savages. I thought the .223's shot great , but after buying that little .204 , I'm amazed. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif Cost to accuracy ratio is great /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

Over the years I have shot 40 some center fire rifles. The Browning Varmint 223 Rem and a Ruger M77 Gray Target 204 Ruger each shot 1/2 groups at 100 Yds. A 1710 Annie 22LR and a Cooper 57M 17 HMR were the best rimfires.

I would have to go with a savage. My little 204 can shoot under a half inch on w/ handloads. So can my 17 HMR without the accu trigger. Remington claims a close second and with good handloads you can get as good or better than a savage sometimes. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

This is the most accurate out of the box rifle I have owned.
Just got it last friday.

I 2nd that, the demo gun I shot put all 10 rounds Fed Match in the X ring from 300 yds prone, shot with out a jacket amd I suprised the hell out of myself that day, but I must say the trigger sucks.

Cooper ,Thats the ticket, with the Kimber longmaster right behind.Super accurate rifles Right out of the box! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

I have a couple of pretty doggone accurate Savages. I would say that in the 'accuracy vs. $$$' category, Savage is the champ. Not showpieces but they are usually good shooters.

I shoot a tikka T3 lite in .22-250 that is pretty darn accurate. I will say that shooting a paper is much different than a live animal, or should I say much easier. Accuracy is a loose term.

Just bought this baby and it puts factory hornady loads damn near in the same hole at a hundred.

Its a savage model 12 .22-250 with a sightron 6.5-20x50 with an accutrigger. I absolutley love it !!

That I have owned and shot, Kimber. For the money you can't go wrong with a CZ. Never owned a Savage (can't explain why) but I'm hoping one will be under the tree this year. I've been really good.

I haven't owned enough new guns right out of the box to make a solid claim. I can only say this: friends and relatives ask me how much it would cost them to get a rig like mine because they want to buy it. I shoot a Savage 12-FV in .223 caliber with a Choate Ultimate Sniper stock. Cheap optics - Bushnell. This rifle puts 100 yard shots inside a nickel.

i have 2 Savages and 1 Stevens (Savage 'value' model), all 3 shoot very well. The 12 VLP is a 22-250 that lays 60gr hp's right on top of each other with 34.1 of RL15. The Stevens is also a 22-250 that will shoot the 60gr hp's with 34.5 of RL15 in half dollar sized groups. The last Savage is a good ole 270 that shoots silver dollar sized groups with factory ammo.

Guess what brand I vote for.

I think you need to have different price ranges.

For the lower priced guns, IMO, you could not touch a Savage.

I am sure some of the higher priced choices shoot as good or better. Some say the Savage is ugly, funny, I never noticed that while I was looking at my tiny groups. But no one would argue that they are the most pleasing to the eye, but I bought my guns to shoot and hunt with, they stay in a dark gun safe that is in a dark closet when not being used.

I have other brands, but they don't shoot as good as the Savages. If you want a gun that everyone at the range wants to hold and talk about how purdy they are, Savage is not for you. If you want a gun that shoots good, and is a value on top of that, get a Savage.
