Sorry for the dumb question. I am from Colorado and never been to TX. Are those hogs people hunt down there Russian Boars, or Feral hogs? Are they good eating?

for the most part they are all ferel hogs, not russian evryone says they are ,but a hybrid or russian has an extra tooth! and while I've killed a few that I thought looked hybrid according to their teeth they were Not!
yes they are very tasty ,I like them better than deer! and I love deer!

They can be real tasty if you tell him not to shoot one of the 400 lb boars. Those are only good for grinding up into sausage. For Barbequeing, about a 75 lber is perfect!

Actually there are Russian boars to be had in Texas but you'll have to pay to hunt them. I have seen some feral hogs that sure seemed to have some Russian traits, which makes me wonder if there hasn't been some interbreeding somewhere along the line.

I hunt somewhat often in Junction, right next door to a large game ranch that has low fences. From time to time I've seen some really muscled-up, hump backed, mean looking hogs run across the place. I don't know if they're Russians but they sure look it! Certainly that situation would allow for mixing of feral and Russian hogs...

Russians do make a pretty mean looking mount, but I've seen many ferals that look just as good to me! If the place you're going has a good hog population, you shouldn't have much trouble finding a really nice one to eat or for a mount-heck one for each!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
