Kyle, Welcome to the board! I'll try to give you what help I can. I would think that the #220 would be good for the coon and fishers. You might want to go to #330 for the beaver. As far as the makers of the traps goes, I think it is all personal choice. I have several different types of traps and all are made by different manufacturers.
If you are not already a subscriber, may I suggest getting a subscription to the Trapper and Predator Caller Magazine. It has tons of info from different traps and how to make sets, what type of lures or baits to use at those set. It has been a great deal of help to me. I have been trapping for just a few years myself. I'll look in again on this post and see if you have anymore questions that maybe I can help you with.
Good luck and again, welcome to the board.

Kyle, good advice above. I might also add that you can learn more in a day or two with an experienced trapper than you would in 2 seasons on your own. See if there is a state chapter of fur trappers org. in your area and try to tag along with someone if possible. Trapper mag. lists all of the state chapters in the back. Also, there are many good videos out there that can teach you proper sets and do's and don'ts.

Fair warning though, trapping is VERY addictive and becomes more of a way of life than a hobby. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Hey Kyle,
Now that I'm not at work, I was able to look in on this topic again and esoxjunkie and the others have some real good ideas. I did not have the advice of an experienced trapper when I started and had to learn most of what little I do know on my own. And let me tell you that is not alot! But I do learn something new each year, and I have learned alot over this past summer because I bought a couple of different videos that deal with K9 trapping and
bobcats. I learned alot from these videos as far as trap placement, using blocking and backing at the set, where to make your sets to maximize your chances of making a catch. The amount of knowledge you can get from the videos if you don't have someone to shoe you is fantastic. Last year I also bought a video that deals with furs and taking care of it from the trap to the stretcher. Before I got that video, I was destroying furs because I had no idea what I was doing.
But as everyone has already said, if you have someone to show you that would sure save you alot of time, money and disappointments. and you can't go wrong with the Trapper and Predator Caller magazine.
Good luck to you again and let us hear from you okay.

Welcome to the Predator Masters Kyle.
I won't be much help with the traps, but I'll be around to make sure Carl don't feed ya no bull.

Hmmm, actually I won't even be able to do that. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Carl where ya been hiding?

Hey River Runner how you doing these days? I really wouldn't try to feed someone some bull. Well, maybe not anymore than I think I can get away with because I know I have you and the other trappers to keep me straight.
I really look forward to each trapping season, and I hope that what little bit of information I do have I can pass on to a new trapper. If I don't have the correct answers, I will most definately point them to the people with more knowledge. I do appreciate all info that you and some of the others have given to myself over the past couple of years, and this is why I enjoy this board so much.
Thanks, and I hope everyone has a great year.

thanks guys. do you think that i would want a 220 or a 330 for otter? I know a couple ppl that will let me tag a long and i think i will do that. thanks again.
