What other FoxPro sounds for coyotes?

Seems like Lightning Jack, Lucky Bird, and a cottontail are the mainstays.

Has anyone had success using things like pig squeals, turkey distress, mule deer/antelope fawn?

I ordered my fx3 friday and the guy from allpredatorcalls.com said to try turkey hen yelps along with the turkey distress.. He said it works great..

I don't know what else to tell you, mine just came in today..

Jackrabbit Distress, Jackrabbit Crying....Those have high pitched jack sounds that seem to stir them up.

I need to try the fawn sounds down in my calling area. I've used them some, but mostly trying to get a lion to show himself.

Prairie Dog Distress and Roaring Red Squirrel are a good little secret for when you and the coyotes seem to get tired of rabbits.

Javelina Demise sounds really good. Havent used mine yet, as I just got my sounds changed, but it is a weird sound and is sure enough distressed sounding. Pup distress #2 will sure call them in.My brother and I used that to call in a pair and killed the female last year in Chaves county, the last week of October. They were threat barking us and when I turned that sound on they came about 400 yards at a run.

I like the JRabbit sounds. The sound that I goto the most is the DSG. I have killed with the fawn sounds, though.
The sound I was using when Rhett killed his 1st dog was the DSG.

I've had some dogs check-up on me recently, and have been searcing for some "death card sounds".

All distress: fox, bob, jav's, bird, and I put some yote's blended w/ dying jack.

None have really gotten them to change their minds and commit to comeing in. The dog&jack one spooked a triple out of the country but I put the hammer on the last one attempting to leave.

I'll keep trying and hopeing one will do the trick.

Last season I started using Vole Squeaks on lower volume to coax in coyotes that had held up at 300 yards away or farther. Vole Squeaks also got a few coyotes to stop for me that did not stop when I muted the original distress sound I was using. Both of my Foxpro callers have Vole Squeaks at volume 20 as the #1 preset sound.

although i prefer my own hand to a machine
i prefer to mix it up
jacks rule the mix tho with either
i have a fawn sound i make with my own tuned custom boards and in the past they have worked well (my foxproing started in march)
looking forward to fawn in distress this spring
also i much prefer the tone quality of the kiyi's and howls from my tone boards with cow horns
to the one's i added to the menu of the fxpro
also
i feel that many of the foxpro sounds that are very high in pitch are over the top for the speakers that are integral to the unit

That's kind of why I was wondering. I would prefer to not have to let 100 dogs go free while waiting on that elusive lion to show. Therefore, I was thinking that if coyotes came in less to the faws and lions more, I might be more "lion-specific."

But I was also curious about the other sounds. I think I'll try turkey distress tomorrow- I need to run down south where there are lots of turkeys.

Speaking of lions, there's a large stuffed one in the International Bank in Raton. We were sitting on the couch underneath it playing "HEY, there's a LION!" and boys... that thing's BIG when it's slightly up and over ya. Are you SURE it's not going to try to eat me???

I have great luck with woodpecker in distress. I am a newbie but have caled half a dozen coyotes, 7 or 8 bobcats and a couple foxes with the woodpecker call.

Juv. red fox has worked well for me on coyotes & bobcats.

2 more of my go to sounds are snowshoe1 & snowshoe hi-pitch.

I like Scrub Hare, Cottontail Dist 1&2, most rabbit sounds work well, I also use Snowshoe High pitch. Have never gotton a Coyote to come to Lightning Jack.

This got me thinking ornery, it has to be a regional thing. azcoyotehunter has written several times that he loves the kitten call. I have used it so many times and never had a dog come to it. I am theorizing that it works for him only because the circumstances and locations he calls are close to Pheonix which probably has a very high population of ferral cats that have wondered out of the city and are easier prey to the yotes.

But I know that a bunch of mebers who are also cali boys use lighting jack a ton and call in lots of dogs. I really think it is location and what the coyotes have identified as viable options for food. I read so many times about calls that work for others on a very frequent bases that have never worked for me, a prime example for you and me is lightning jack I too have never had any success with that call.

To the original poster I use jackrabbit distress and cottontail distress and pups in distress almost exclusively in the early season. This time of year I use a lone howl a lot, jack rabbit distress, and aggresive jack rabbit a ton. With a little bit of pup in distress occasionally. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

That's a tough one..... we don't have any jack rabbits in Tennessee but Lightning Jack has been a awesome producer for me, I've killed a bunch (by TN standards) of coyotes, cats & foxes with this sound alone.

Great point rprince. I have never hunted an area that does not hold cottontails or Jackrabbits, so this point had never crossed my mind. Now that you mention it because they are so curious any distress should work.

But like ornery and myself have found lightning jack has not been a producer for us. Which is weird since I at least have jack everywhere I call and it still has not worked.

I used Lightning Jack again today after I posted. No response.. I switched to " Young Rabbit" and one came in.. lol its funny to see what works and what doesent.

I did some Foxpro calling this morning and started with Varmint Al's 20 min sequence. When that was over switched to one of the Jack calls and had a big male trot in right away. He did not survive the encounter. Fur is pretty good already.

Turkey calls would not work well here as a wild turkey has not roamed these parts in many years. I do have sheep, chicken, fawn, prairie dog calls loaded up. But I usually succeed with the Jack calls. Our jackrabbits are nearly the size of WY jacks, so I assume they are a staple.
