What panic?

Thought I should give an update on the thread I started
earlier on the "Savage Project". Last week, I asked about
pre-fit Savage barrel manufacturers, and this week I have
everything in hand to complete the project, except bullets.
It all started at MidwayUSA where I found a Savage Bolt
head, for the 308 Win. cartridge family, and all of the
extractor and ejector parts, to complete the bolt head, for
simple swaps. Then I talked to Jim, at Northland, and he
happened to have the exact barrel I was looking for. A 260
Rem. chambered SS barrel, 24" length, 1:8 twist, in a heavy
sporter contour(pretty Shilen, with a recessed target crown).
Jim also fixed an oversight I made on the bolt baffle,
switching from a 204 Ruger to a 260 Rem. That box arrived
Tuesday, with the barrel, barrel nut, new recoil lug, bolt
baffle, and a couple of lighter trigger springs. Yesterday
the Norma brass and Go Gauge arrived from Brownells, and the
Forster dies, from Midsouth, are on the Fed Ex truck, out for
delivery.

What panic? I guess I am fortunate to be working on a bolt
action rifle project rather than an AR-15 project.

I have 4 of them in the safe, so I needed a break from ARs
anyway.

The only bad news in all of this is, I leave tomorrow morning
on a long tradition fishing trip, so all of the new stuff
will sit on the shelf until I get back, and have time to
play with guns again.

There has been no real change in the aftermarket parts departments (at least for bolt guns). There is still 5+/- month wait for stocks & 4+ month wait for barrels, from manufactures. Just like it has been for the last 5-6 years. However, now lots of retailers have noticed this & found they can make $ on people wanting it "now" & keep popular items in stock. There hasn't ever been a run on custom parts other than the usual.

Were the "panic" has been is with your average Joe walmart items. It started with the threat of AR ban & all the AR stuff was gone & 223Rem ammo was bought up. Then people bought up pistol ammo. After a while "the word" was spread that there was limited ammo & people has been buying up "any they can get". Hence why 22LR has become so popular.

Once the 6mm guys seen all the .224" stuff was GONE. They bought up all they could find before they couldn't get any. So on & so on... People that are not gonna shoot 5 times this year have bought 5000+ rounds, just cause.

If they run a story on the news tonight that there is a toilet paper shortage; there wouldn't be TP on the shelves for a month. But only because of diarrhea of the mouth.

don't forget your snowmobile, got about 10" of snow in my part of west central WI, sure don't feel like fishing season, glad I got a late season turkey tag!

Yup, I have to plow the shop, so I can get the boat out tomorrow.
Something just feels wrong about that!

Yeah yeah rub it in.

My barrel and stock have been on order since the beginning of February and I don't anticipate seeing them till end of June or beginning of July.

Keep patient. I'm waiting on a stock ordered in December....

A big plus 1 on that! We need to get the media to say that "there's tons of ammo on the shelves, with more on the way, and it will keep coming no matter what." That way, those of us who just want to shoot gophers with our kids can do it without asking the 8 year old to shoot the 6mm cause I've only got enough 22lr left for her little brother. She likes the AR and shoots it well, but we're pretty low on that too, and now even the varmint bullets are all gone from the shelves... ARGGGG!!! These short-sighted panicy idiots are really messing things up for those of us that will actually shoot the ammo and not hoard it all. I'm just hoping that when it all blows over, these dumbasses will start selling it off cheap... So I can start hoarding it all! (insert evil cackle)
