What sounds for groundhogs (KY)?

I haven't heard of any calls that will bring them in but
if they are out of their hole and you whistle they will
stand up and give you a nice shot.

The Kiss of Death (lip squeak)? Hmmmm? I don't know what I'm saying when I give a shrill whistle, but the g'hogs beat feet to the hole. Maybe that KoD is something that Coyote Kate & I can do together when g'hoggen. Just gotta remember to keep my mind on the what we're there for. lol

Mitchell, I'm not really wanting to call them in, just wanting to know if anyone has used calls to make them raise up for a shot. I bought this sliding whistle type call years ago that I can make a high pitched whistle that will get them curious and raise up and look around.
Just curious if anyone had used any type call/sound to draw their attention for a shot. We used to have them everywhere but the coyotes have sure cut down their numbers.

a hawk whistle ( turkey locator) makes them put up right quick. Then the bark or my rifle makes them drop. Right quick.

A Hawk Whistle /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif I never heard of one. I guess I need to get out more. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif lol
Do you pick 'em up wherever fine turkey calls are sold? Makes sense!

You sure di Victor. Just blow across an empty cartridge. It'll whistle if you do it right. Just make one short quick note.

Most any kind of predator sound will make them pop up for a look. The hawk whistle is a good idea. Actually, they're about like Turkeys, in that any sudden, sharp sound will make them respond. The sound of a tractor will get them every time, or a slamming door, or even a shot in the air will get a rise so you can locate them.

Don't laugh at the tractor sound. If a person was serious enough, and energetic enough, he could carry an E-caller with a tractor recording and locate about every groundhog in the area.

The sound that seems to work the best on the groundhogs here in Ohio is the big noise from the 22-250, but the smaller sound of the .223 is right behind it I would say.

I was wondering what sounds would work best for groundhogs here in KY? Thanks!

I would have to say that the sound of a speeding train seems to work pretty well ?
I always see tons of them mashed on the railroad tracks around here ! >>>>>> /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

A whistle works good! Get a coaches/ref's whistle.
The best one for groundhogs I ever used was Timmy /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
My buddys little brother could whistle so loud it hurt your ears but them groundpigs would stand right up. LOL

The first animal I was ever able to call in regularly was ground squirels here in Idaho. The place I hunted them was pretty grown over so they usually saw me before I could see them. I would watch where they went down the hole, set up about 10 yards away and call them back out of the hole. The squirels make a high pitched PEEP PEEP that I could duplicate with short high pitched whistles. Now I never sat for more than a couple of minutes at a hole but it seemed to work about half the time.
