We use poly in all of our houses and we have never had any peeling in over twenty years. It just has to be applied correctly.  We stopped using sanding sealer after they changed the formula for greenie idiot reasons.  When you do poly you got to use 120 grit sandpaper before the first coat after the first coat then use 220 to smooth out the finish before the second coat is applied.   We are able to get two coats to shine and three coats look like a mirror.  Then one thing that you need to realize is that clear poly will fade to a yellowish orange over time when put on pine.
