What type of sling?

I'm new to the AR game and am about to get my first one finished so I'm in need of a sling. What do you guys use? I'm not into all the tacticool stuff, I just need to carry my rifle while hunting.

I always buy cheap slings, so I'm no help there.

I'm here to tell you to look into a side sling mount if you have a standard handguard or a quick disconnect sling mount if you're free floated.

The QD's are really nice when popping the upper off.

I just bought my 2nd one of these and I have to say its quite possibly the best on the market.

I would steer clear of this one.

I ordered this one because I had a $15 off gearhog coupon and it had some good reviews. When it arrived, I immediately contacted joebobs and the rep told me I could send it back. He even waived the restocking fee since they already knew of the issue (guess I wasn't the only one to complain.) I repacked it in the box it came in and shipped it back. The cheap over sized clips were made from stamped metal with very sharp edges that can and will cause damage to your firearms finish. I posted a well written, accurate, 1 star (poor) review on the product page to give potential customers warning about the possibility scratching their firearms finish with this sling and joebobs removed it. On 8/15/2011 I contacted joebobs to find out what happened to the review I posted and this was the response I received.

"Any negative reviews (3 or below) we monitor to see if it accurately represents the product at hand. We have had reviews such as "product sucks can't get it to work" when it was the customer's fault for the product not working. Due to this, we go in and review things.

We automatically pull all negative reviews until we go back and review them to see if it accurately represents the product or problem the customer had. We appreciate all good, and bad reviews, as long as their insightful to give other customers the good and bad about a product from a 3rd party's perspective. Your review hasn't been reviewed yet (we do it every few days). Because reviews are subjective, we try to make sure it reflects the problem, and the solution to the problem the consumer had with the product. We'll forward on any revisions we make to get your approval before we re-upload it."

I have yet to receive the "revisions for approval." Keep that in mind when checking user reviews of products from certain retailers. You are not always seeing all of the reviews, only the ones that will move their products. In the end, you will get stuck paying for return shipping for a lousy product you could have avoided if all honest reviews were available for you to read.

I put a Claw sling on my AR. I love the "sling" but hate the front mount. I use a Harris bipod and the frnt sling mount interferes with the the legs on the bipod. For THAT reason I hate it. Any suggestions to modifications. Sorry don't mean to hijack this thread.

I may try the Claw I have on my shotgun to see how I like it on my AR. I have a hard time paying what they want for a "tacticool" sling when all I want to do is carry my rifle, I'm not a soldier lol

Here's a good deal on a "tacticool" sling like I'm using. A very good deal.

Blue Force Gear Vickers Combat Sling

I second the opinion above about the side mounted sling. It is way more comfortable for an ar. I like the magpul sling because it can be converted from one to two point in about 1 second. I like single points because you can leave the sling on and disconnect the rifle.

I'm using this type of sling mount. It's working good if you like to carry cross-body. I won't go back to anything else on my AR after getting used to it.

That front sling mount/pivot pin is from KNS, too, and that's the sling I linked to (Vickers). I do have to unscrew that pivot pin head to separate the upper/lower, but it takes about 15 seconds.

+1

I agree, I just wish they had a three point or single point sling.

Another great "tactical" sling is the boonie packer slings. Very simple, CHEAP and perfectly useable.

Im really happy with mine.

I also ordered the Mission Spec sling due to a coupon code, but I really haven't had any complaints about it. Partially because I contacted Mission Spec about sending it to them and having them replace the MASH hooks with QD swivels that I sent them and they were more than happy to restrap the sling and did it free of charge. With QD swivels it is a pretty nice 1 point sling and if you're trekking from stand to stand you connect the second swivel and strap it on your back. I like it, others may not, to each their own.
