Those PTG bolt faces are pretty cheap aren't they? I've never done it myself but it doesn't seem too bad... Guess it also depends on the action.

I also wasn't sure if he wanted to save the action or the barrel!

I am actually doing a defiance action (700 clone) switch barrel rig. The .223 barrel is shot out so I wanna rechamber the barrel. I already have a 6mm cal for it, so I was thinking a wicked fast .20 or .22 cal would be a fun addition.

Sounds like if you have a standard bf you could do a 20 br , 20-47 lapua or 20/250 if you want a wicked fast .20

You mean the .222 remington magnum! I remeber a friend of my Dads had one. When I was young we would have shootout/cookout kinda thing and that was the first rifle I think I ever shot.

Actually it is a 222 Rem Mag IMP.

The 22-204 is what I would do with a small bolt face. Run it in a 1-9 twist for maximum fun!

Actually it's not. I'd call it more of a 222RM Gibbs, as the shoulder is blown forward .275" ala Gibbs rounds.

I think I've posted this pic a hundred times.....

Some cases for comparison.....

221 Fireball --- 222 Rem --- 223 REM --- 223 Ackley --- 222 Rem mag --- 22-204

The the 22-204 has about one more grain capacity than a 223 Ackley and almost two more than a 222 RM, and NO FIREFORMING required.

I run my 22-204 through a standard Savage mag either center feed or stagger feed. Some of the earlier .223 stagger feeds had a larger block in the mag, some I've pulled the block and made a smaller one others I just change to the newer box.
