What's a good powder for 204 ruger?

I am gathering supplies for loading 204 ruger and will probably start with 40 grain. I have been looking a lot for info and found different loads but don't know if the powders listed are good for accuracy. I would like a load not necessarily the fastest but with decent accuracy. If anyone has any pet loads that work well I would appreciate them. No use trying a dozen powders when several probably have worked out the best already in most guns.
Thanks

Bob, although I am fairly new at reloading for the 204, I have found that W748 and BL-C2 have both proven to be good for my 32 gr,. V-maxes being spit out of my Ruger 77. Starting loads were both sub 1.25" groups at 100 yds. Hope this helps, 99.

Bob-- 40gr V-Max or Bergers? I had -0- luck with the 40gr V-Max so I can't help you there. The 40gr Bergers really like Re10X in my Remington tho.

BTW-- If the 40's don't work for you try the 39gr BK's with H4895.

I like Varget for the 204. I live in a cool damp environment and travel to a much warmer area to shoot for the most part(Eastern Montana). Varget is very stable with temperature changes and gives me quarter inch groups(I neck-turn my 204 brass). My favorite bullet for this caliber is the 39gr. Sierra Blitzking. For me the load is 28 grains just off the lands. This load is as far as I can go with my truck axel Savage with very lite pressure signs. You should work up to this load. Good luck. Enjoy your 204.

BobF,

Welcome to the site, do a search on Silverfox as the member and you'll get tons of stuff on the 204. He did quit a bit of shooting and load development and published it all here on the site 8-12 months ago. Should give you all the info you need. Good luck.

I've tried several different powders in my new .204,
The Hodgdon powders aren't doing too well so far!
I'm having really good results with Viht N135 though, I'm experimenting with the OAL at the moment and setting the bullets deeper as I can't get the bullet anywhere near the lands!....it's long!
The factory rounds were useless!.......I'm getting better group consistency with the handloaded 40g Hornadys.
UKF.
