What's a good trigger weight for an AR coyote hunting rifle

I'm looking to send my AR trigger in to Bill Springfield for a trigger job. He does a 3 pound and a 4 pound job. I want to go light, but not to the point of being dangerous. Is 3 pounds too light for a coyote hunting rifle?

I had planned on buying a 4# Timney from Dan Carey but (thankfully) he talked me into the 3#. Like you, I was worried that the 3# might be a bit light for a predator rifle. I have had no problems with the 3# and am very happy that Dan convinced me to get the lighter trigger.

All three of my AR's triggers are around three pounds and I don't feel them to be unsafe while hunting with gloves on. Yet, they are all two stage triggers. My finger is never on the trigger until the cross hairs are where I want them, so really thick gloves wouldn't matter to me anyway. If it goes off while sliding my finger into position...no big deal the crosshairs are already where I want them. I haven't ever had that happen yet, but I have been supprised several times while squeezing a trigger and it went off before I thought it would.

I don't think I would go any lighter than 3# on a hunting rifle. I am going to send my trigger group to Bill before the fall.

I prefer a 2lb. trigger on a varmint rifle where I will be using light weight gloves, or no gloves at all. Even a 3 lb. trigger feels heavy to me if I am not wearing gloves. Perhaps, it's all the shooting I have done over the years with 20 and 24 oz. triggers on my heavy varmint rifles that makes me feel this way.

But, with a semi auto, some considerable thought has to go into the issue of how light can you make the trigger and still have a safe semi auto action. On that, I will have to defer to those who have an AR.

3 lbs. is good. Shouldn't be a problem. Bill does a great job too, and fast turnaround. When you have a coyote in sight, last thing you are really thinking about is trigger pull. But, the 3 lb. job he does, is excellent. Go for it, and don't look back.

I;ve got my DPMS setup at 2 1/2 with a JP trigger and some times I;ll get double taps with it, so i would not go much lighter than that.

I think I'll get the 3 pound, then. He emailed me back this morning. I think I'm going to send in the 10/22 while I'm at it.

Everybody is very different in their shooting skills, not to mention, someone else may want to borrow the gun. If you have a lighter trigger than 3 lbs, let someone borrow the gun, someone may get shot.

3# for a coyote AR. That is what I like, some will say more, some less. My really light triggers are only for my heavy varmint guns that will be sitting on a rest of some sort overlooking prairie dogville.

My dpms is 2.5# and if your hunting you can get double taps with it on the bench its fine.I would say for hunting 3# or better.
