Whats behind the name?

Ok fellas! Why did you name your call(business if ya want to call it that) what ya did. For example why Gee-B, MadMoose, THO and etc...? Whats behind the name?

Be safe,
Todd

The main reason I have a name of Gee-B calls, is that "timbertoes" is a copyrighted/trademarked name of cartoon characters. And my first/middle intials are G and B.

then I was thinking someone might get one of my calls, and think "Gee, B(ryan), this is one awesome call" /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-006.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-006.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

THO The Hunted One. My Handle on all the boards.

Comes from an old USMC handle. Long story and not EVEN going to go there so don't ask /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif If I told ya....well, you know the rest /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Besides, when you call critters, you aren't really hunting them, you're letting them hunt you.

So become one of "The Hunted Ones" with a THO Predator or Varmint Call.

Kind of catchy eh???

Madison Avenue here I come /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

THO Game Calls

A very unglamorous story. Several years ago, after I'd bought my one and only brand spanking new pickup truck, I spent the ching to get vanity plates that said "PREDATR". (I was restricted to only 7 letters and figured the "O" could go.) Anyway, I had a bunch of prototype calls fashioned as we headed toward my PS-3 design and started thinking about what I could call my new calls. Well, as I mulled the idea over, I locked up the trapping shed and was walking toward the house when I looked at the plate on the front bumper on my truck. What better to call a predator call than a "PREDATR Call"?

comes from an actual coyote I trapped many years ago and who graciously allowed me to get right nose to nose with it and take come pics. With a little creative computer work and transferring it to a file that the laser engraver could recreate, the rest is now history.

Great post Todd. It's answering the same questions I've often had.

For myself, it's rather simple. It was a lack of creativity when I started a few years ago. "TT Custom Predator Calls." I figured most people wouldn't pronounce my last name correctly, thus stuck with my initials, "TT". The "Custom Predator Calls" part defines what I do. All I do is build predator calls. I focus on custom built calls, tailoring to a customized sound for each customer/caller. I've dropped most other forms of hunting and focussed on predators for the past 10 years or so. It'd be a long cold day, before you see a duck call come from my shop. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Well....

I'm going to embarass myself and admit to something some here already know. The last two years have been very difficult for me and I haven't kept up on many of my obligations. (That is the reason I haven't advertised or "sold" any calls yet.) One of those obligations is a call I promised to "Jimmie in Kentucky".... and here is the story of why I promised Jim this call(Blackdog #1 call)and the reason for the name!

....originally posted in March of this year....

Well, I'm jumping the gun here because I'm not quite ready yet, but this is a new call design inspired by a conversation with "Jimmie in Kentucky" at the 2004 "LBL" Hunt. The call is tuned to a high pitch just for Jimmie. The reed tool is brass and walnut, the call is red elm burl, the coyote inlay is pewter and the feather emblem is sterling silver. I'll post a better pic when everything is finished.

That is how the name for my latest venture...BlackDog Calls...was born. You see Jimmie and I were talking about the regional color phases of coyotes and how there were some particularly dark coyotes in the "LBL" area.
Quote from Jimmie: "They's some blackdogs right'ch here in this here'n danged holler!"
For that I want to thank you Jimmie! Here is the first attempt at a call just for you. I'm working on hand turned antler and burl beads to replace the store bought ones. Your package should be there by next week! Nikonut

Jimmie still hasn't received his call or the other matching calls that go with it... Jimmie... I will get them out to you very soon. The package and calls are on the kitchen table where they have been sitting for almost 6 months.

...Now everyone knows, and again I thank you Jimmie for your(behind the scenes)support! The same goes for those other members(you know who you are!) that know my personal story... Thanks for your support also!

I really do hope to get this off the ground soon and I will always support this forum! This fantastic group has been my home for the last two years, so thanks to all of you! You will never really know how much this place has meant to me... Nikonut /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Now Nut, they aint no big hurry on those calls. They can wait until Febuary when you show up at the hunt. I am just tickled that my brogue had something to do with the name /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-006.gif You make sure that littlest one saves up her allowance for the raffle if they come with you/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

I am wanting a display case for my toys but can't decide on the wood to use.Desciscions desciscions /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif Jimmie

The MAD MOOSE name came about from my screen name, Moose57. A few years back I got a real obsession for Alaskan moose hunting. I have been to Alaska 5 times so far, but not yet for moose. That is going to be my next big Alaskan hunt.

So because of my moose obsession, I came up with the name Moose57. 1957 is my birth year, by the way. When I started making calls I naturally had to incorporate the moose name. The mad part had kind of a crazy / angry conotation to it and I liked the way it sounded. And adding the mad part to it, I hoped people wouldn't think I only made moose calls. After all, does anybody think Uncle Jay really makes calls that only call rhinos? I don't think so. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

So, sorry, no stories about me battling an enraged moose with only my wits and a 2" pocket knife. It would have made a good story, though. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

Boy, that pic takes us back a few years! There were not the array of calls available as customs then as there are now. Many of our custom makers were just beginning to dream. Nestled in that pic between the pc3 and sceery cottontail you can see parts of two customs built by one of our own, Rich Cronk. One a prototype and the other a true custom built for me the way I wanted it. The custom had Ky Special written on the reed protector. And if you were to see those two calls now , you would know they have been road tested extensively /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Rich and Uncle Jay Nistetter were a real inspiration to most of us I think. What these two gentlemen have shared is priceless.

THO was just getting started and many others soon followed. I want to here more of the stories behind the beautiful work created by all of our custom makers. Jimmie

My name was simple to pick, EW is easy to remember and tells who I am. I kind of like my name and am proud of Ernest Wilson. My dad named me after his brother Ernest killed in the Second World War. I in turn named my first son the same name, and my son passed his name on out of respect for his grandfather and me. My dad did not live to see this, but I am sure my dad would have respected this deeply. It is nice having all three Ernie’s living at the same time. Unbelievably, we have no communication problem. I can tell by the tone of my wife, s voice who she is talking to. LOL
The first call I made and liked was given to my grand son. My son built my wed page, so it was easy for me to pick EWcalls. I like the name and so does the rest of the family. LOL

Great Namesake!

Buckwheat that is a great story! You should certainly be proud of your family! Says alot about what this is all about.

Well,

I got started building turkey calls and when I went to building predator calls I all ready had the screen name Keekee. Being my roots of wood working were in turkey calls, I desided to keep the name close. I went with Kee's Custom Calls.
