So I need these, who makes the best ?
I see good reviews for the Model 1 Sales Receiver block.
Not sure about the wrench, I need one that is not closed all the way around, to get behind my NM float tube.
Also how about a good Strap wrench, will the ones at
Harbor Freight Tools work ?

Hi Guys, I'm fairly new to the AR platform. Only have one, a S&W M&P 15 PSX piston rifle. I have a question and please believe me I am not trying to be a smart azz.
Why would anyone spend $50.00 hard earned dollars on a block vise??? I have soft jaws that I made 20 yrs ago out of hard wood and leather covered. If I need to do something with my upper, I just put the barrel in the soft jaws at any angle I need, upside down, sideways, upright etc.
Maybe I'm missing something. Please enlighten me.
Granted I love to make things with my hands and I guess I don't like wasting my money. I even made an oak one that goes up into my Magazine and clicks into my mag. release and holds my lower real nice in my vise. The wrench I understand, although if I had some machine shop tools, I'd probably make one of those too. lol...Can't help it....its my nature.

Well I got these local and they worked perfect.
The Wrench is made in the USA and comes with a lifetime guarantee. I had to heat up the
barrel sleeve, it was red Loc-Tighted good

Same here, This is especially handy if you are working with multiple ARs, swapping a barrel from one upper to another. You clamp the block into a vice and then just pin the upper onto the block -- which means you don't have to fiddle with the the vice when moving on to the next upper.

The only problem I have had with it is that it does not work well with a dedicated 22lr barrel, because the chamber protrudes back into the inside of the upper. If I needed to work with dedicated 22 barrels more often I would probably address that little issue with a dremel tool.

As far as a wrench is concerned, I have been using the DPMS multi-tool for years. I can't say it's the best out there since it's all I have ever used and I have nothing to compare, but I have never had a problem with it.

i really like the model one upper vice block for installing and removing barrels as it supports the entire upper and is not just relying on the pins. The dpms wrench is a good wrench, except it dont like the castle nut wrench part of it as much as some of the others. After using many many strap wrenches the best i know of is the ridgid strap wrench, but easier to find, and for just a few uses Klien strap wrenches can be found at ace hardware and are pretty good.
