My definition is that the rifle is used (fired) but otherwise functions and appears exactly as it did in its new, unfired state. No dings, dents, scratches, etc. Had it not been disclosed by the seller it would be nearly impossible to tell the rifle had ever been removed from the original box.
Anything less than that to me is not "like new".
