I just picked up a Marlin 336 I believe its 336cs. It is 35 rem , has a nice walnut stock. Its not real old cause it has a cross bolt safety but the gun looks new. I hope I didnt get something that wont shoot to good. I always wanted a 35 rem. Now Im going to half to search high AND LOW FOR A 45/70. i WILL MOST LIKELY PUT A PEEP SIGHT ON THIS 35.Skinner Sights makes an awsome peep for the Marlins.
Any input appreciated.

Perfect woods gun & will drop anything in NA.
I ran Williams & Lyman peep sights on the Marlins I had in the 70-80s.

I love the .35 rem.. I shot my first cow elk at age 12 with a lever action marlin .35 rem. Dropped her in her tracks at 100 yds.. aww great memories!!!

My first real deer rifle was a Marlin 336 in 35 Rem. I eventually put a Williams peep sight on it and loved it for hunting in the woods. When my son started hunting, I put a scope on it and he used for several years. Haven't hunted with it in a long time, but I bet it will still do the job. We killed a number of deer with the caliber.....that big old bullets drops them.

I've had my .35 Rem for 25 years now... I love it! I initially went in to get a .30-30, but left with the .35 instead. Never looked back.

Don't own a 35 but allot of guys around here like em for Elk/Deer.

I do however have one of Skinners sights on my little Henry 22WMR.

They're top quality for sure, although the one my buddy has on his Marlin 357 works allot better than mine being so far from the eye.
Still good with my tired old peepers out to 75 or so though.
You won't be disappointed.

One tip is to put an o-ring on the aperture threads. It's almost impossible to keep it tight without one unless you use thread lock or (god forbid) channel locks.

Enjoy the new rig. It should be a dandy!

I have a Marlin 336C i use for deer hunting. Only had one after shot go for about 25 feet, rest dropped in their tracks. I love it.

I really like my 336 in .35 Remington. Shoot the 200gr Core-Lokts in either factory loads or in your reloads if you plan on it. 38.5grs H4895 should get it perking right along with great accuracy. Mine wears a Weaver 1-3x20mm and my 1895G wears a Leupold m8 2.5x20mm. I like 20mm scopes on lever guns as, to me, it does not mess up their balance and point ability. I had a Skinner on my 1895G but went to the 2.5x.

I agree with jbelow; best all around lever gun cal. I have a few and we use for deer and hogs. I just sold a Marlin 336 BL in 35 Rem, the BL stood for barely legal. Started life as a guide gun, too loud so the previous owner cut the muzzle brake off, recrowned it. I had ghost rings and a LER Leupold on a QD scout mount. What a cab gun that was.

Sounds like this is a gun I should keep. It has nice walnut wood on it also. I guess I will go scope although I love the looks of a lever gun with a tang sight or receiver mounted peep sight. I am 54 yrs old and the peep will not help much past 75 yards.I just gotta find a scope that looks right on her.
Thanks Daryl P.

Very little recoil. No need for muffs. Great little round that will slap a deer down like a sissy!

Chris , your talking crazy. 35 Remington kicks like an 30-06 bolt action.

An outstanding deer round. Does the job without all the blood shock. My experience is using a Remington XP-100 handgun and 180gr single shot pistol bullets.

Excellent round.

This thread has me thinking of going old school next year in the deer woods. Taking the 35 with irons and the 44 blackhawk. The ground I have to hunt is really thick Missouri hardwoods. The doe I shot this year was about 15 yards. I did it with the ar. But man I have a soft spot for lever guns and single actions. I was born 125 years to late! Use it and good luck with it!
