When building a live trap,.......

Does it matter what you use for the wire enclosure?
Some are made out of 1" wire.
Is it best for a bobcat to see out of the trap as he enters? Perhaps a totally enclosed plastic culvert could be used?
The material I was going to use is 1/2" mesh, but the 1" would allow more view to the outside.

Thanks

it doesent matter a whole lot. i prefer wire mesh though i think it helps a whole lot but i guess you could catch a cat in a barrel. i personly have never tried it. i asume the 1/2"x1" mesh you are using is probly the stuff you can get at lose. that works just fine i have put that on many traps. but i have found a place to get 1"x2" wire mesh that is STRONGER and a little cheaper so that is all i use for makeing traps now unless it is rat or squirle traps i am makeing. when you set your trap you want to stack brush around it and on top to make it looke like a opening in a brush pyle so if you use a barrel or something that wouldent look very natural. that is the main reason i like the mesh. you want the animal to feel secure going in the trap but you also want the trap to be STRONG as well. good luck hope this helps

Pack Wolf, I am looking at trying to trap some cats this year in cages also. I have the number for a guy out of nebraska that makes cat cage traps and there is a guy on here named Yancy that makes them. Where you at in Colorado? I am in Cortez. Pm me if interested in what I have found out and we can compare notes.

When you build a cage trap, I like the 1x1 14ga Red Brand wire, the Chinese Wire has cost me several cats and Grey Fox, and the cat's will go in a fairly small cage. I catch a bunch of the Big old Toms in a 8x16x36 inch cage. But the Wire is the important thing, regardless of the size, is a cat finds a weak spot in the wire he won't quit fighting it, and the 1x2 wire is a good choice also IMO. Just ranting Yancy
