sleddogg,
I'm not sure exactly, but I believe pup dispersal begins in September around here (Iowa). Some pups will hang with momma clear up to mid winter if she will let em, but the pups can make it on their own easy enough by August I think.
Late August and September is when i start around here, (northern CA and Nevada). September and October have always been the best months for calling for me. I start hitting the coyotes hard in the early fall and late summer while most people are worried about deer, bear and birds around here. Alot of young ignorant coyotes running around in the late summer and early fall. My best days have calling have been from late August through October. I have a hard time getting my best calling partner to go out with me because he is deer hunting in these months. I hunt deer and bear but I always make time for coyotes in these months. They are by far the best times for calling. I kill coyotes year round but I look forward to the new crop of young yotes that disperse in the late summer and early fall. They are much easier to manipulate than the older dogs that survived the previous year.
Pups usually disperse in 6-9 months after being born. That's why fall hunting is so good. I have a hard time pulling away from deer hunting though. This year I'm going to shoot one early (I say that every year /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif ).
