When too much is just too much

Well after some consideration and a shitty ending to my predator season I decided to shed my 1280 res S60R scope for a new Wave 650 Atris V2 scope.
The S60R image is great, but it was just too much for the run & gun hunting I do in the woods of NY state.
I fell headlong into the thermal resolution hole and my coyote hunting suffered because of it.
The S60R is a scope geared to those that have open terrain and shoot longer distances to take advantage of the 1280 resolution.
Had Halo scopes since they came out and was going to get another X50 that I sold to get the S60R, but I was informed that the Atris also has the reactive reticle feature like the Halo.
I really like the ractive reticle feature and after watching + corresponding with coyote hunters who've used the Atris, the choice was made.
The 650's image quality is great as well as the button and feature options.
I wasn't sure about the top dial focus, but after one night of use I see how it's a great ambi design that eliminates grabbing the Obj lens flip cover when trying to focus with a collar type focus.
The 650 Atris also weighs a pound less ( even with the hulk sized 26650 battery ! ) and is a couple of inches shorter than the S60R.
I mounted it on the PCP rifle last night so I can get acquainted with it before the fall predator season rolls around and to help stop the spread of the Hantavirus in NY.
So far I'm liking it.

I gave it my best shot, but 1280 resolution couldn't overcome trying to fit a square peg in a round hole.
It didn't work out for me, but it doesn't mean it won't be a good fit for you.
Plenty of hunters have been using the scope with great success.

I could slum a 50R too.

I just like all the features of the Aces, the ocular zoom, the 3 button layout on the eyepiece, the menu in the top turret, the ballistic reticle, & the 2X base mag to name some off the top of my head.

My buddy has the H50R and after using it for a couple of hunts that's what sold me on getting the S60R.
1280 res offers no advantage for the close distances I shoot.
The S60R's digital zoom combined with the ballistic calculator and ocular zoom is the ticket for longer range shooting.
I would consider a 1280 res scope that has a 3x base magnification like the Rix DBH D12 or Nocpix/Rico S75R if I was going to be taking longer range shots frequently.

I don't get into the LR situations very often either, but my thought process is I like the idea of the 2X base mag with it's huge FOV for the tight quarters I hunt in sometimes. Which is the strip farming around here of corn, beans, & hay early in the fall when they cut last crop hay, and/or start chopping corn or taking out the beans. I make it work with 3X, but the 2X could be a favorite, with the ocular zoom in play for some situations.

I'm not in a big crank right now, I still have about 3 months to sort it out. Maybe something else inviting will pop up in the mean time.

You never know what's going to come out in three months, but image wise I don't see anything on the horizon with better than the S60R in a tube style scope coming out.
I limited my choices to a tube style that uses 18650 batteries and has ambi controls, but you open up a couple of more choices with box style scopes with proprietary batteries.
Here's a link showing the FOV difference of the S60R Vs H50R.
( S60R Vs H50R )
The only issue with having 1280 res goodness with LRF is battery consumption, so if you do get it plan on carrying extra 18650's in the colder temps.
