where do woodchucks live?

Dead serious question. I have shot them mostly along fields with ditches, railroad tracks, etc but finding those spots is getting harder and harder so I'm looking to expand to some larger fields cause the 100yard stuff is getting a little boring. Do they have holes and feed in larger bean or hay fields or stick to the areas around ditches and RR tracks?

You must be fairly new in the world of woodchuck hunting. Like most things the more you look, learn, pay attention too the better you will become.

'chucks prefer easy digging(dens /holes/burrows) and spots that provide cover, but a good vantage point to watch for danger. Here in Michigan places include, brushy fence rows, ditch banks, under buildings, piles of broken waste concrete, RR beds, wood and or brush piles, sand ridges in hay fields. Along with this a close food source is a major bonus.

The do climb pretty well as I shoot one out of a tree now and then.

I am fairly new to it. A buddy got me into it a few years ago but a few of our normal spots are no longer available and I would like to obtain more for he and I. The main spots that we have all have either RR tracks or rivers/creeks but I'm finding these huge 100+ acre bean fields with no fence rows, no brush, no ditch lines its just all flat as a board fields. I didn't think they would hang in the middle of a large field but wanted to check.

Our main producing spot is a large field with like 5 fence rows and some RR tracks, the other is a small bowl with several hillsides on 3 sides but its less than 100yard shots and I noticed they always hang out like 20yards from the hill or the RR tracks.
