Where to sight my Holosight in for my 16" AR?

I have a holosight on my 16" AR and went shooting it the other day to sight it in. I got it dead on at 25 yds, but at 100 yards I can't get a good group(3to5 inches). Is this the best I can get shooting the holosight at extended ranges? I wanted the holosight for my calling gun out to about 150 yards, but if the accuracy is not there then I will have to go to a scope. I don't want to go to the scope b/c I like the quickness of the sight on stands, but need good accuracy also. I was wondering if I would be better off sighting dead on at a close range and just see how the performance is at longer distances. Of course it could also be my colt upper. Do these(holosights) hold zero well?
I would appreciate any advice or experience people have with the holosight or red dots on ARs used for calling. Thanks again

Are you saying youre getting 3-5 inch groups at 100 yards with your AR...or you wish you could??
If you are, then I'd say thats pretty good...that'll get your bullets right where they need to be. Most of the coyotes I've killed were all well under 100 yards anyways. IMHO if you can get decent groups with your holo-sight at 75 yards then i'd stick with that.

I had an eo-tech on my 16" colt flat top as well, I sighted in at 50 yards and never held over or under out to 200 yards. I liked it pretty well but went back to a scope cause my eyes tried to disect the dot into several small dots when I focused hard on target, it was finally explained to me what was happening on ar15.com it seems if you have astigmatism in your eyesight it will blur the dot or break it down, normal eyesight or corrective lenses will bring it back to normal. When I shot I never did too bad but when I really tried to get a good group over 100 yards the harder I tried the worse it got, I'd get pissed and start firing without so much effort and the groups would shrink, now I understand why. Maybe this is what's happening to you, I don't know but sure wished I knew about this before I sold mine.

I shoot terrible groups at 100 yards with my holosight only because I can barely see the target at that range.

I have mine side mounted and sighted in at 50 yards. Works great for heavy cover and running shots in close.

Thanks for the info. I will just sight it dead on at 50 yds and see how it shoots. I want it accurate enough to hit a yote a 150. If anyone has anymore advice please feel free to comment. What about the red dots with magnification how do they work?

I use a ACOG 4x32 TA01 on my Colt Ar-15. The Acog is as clear as any Leupold scope and allows for a quick sight. While the 4x is almost perfect in my opinion for under 100 yard calling. I have shot the Acog out to 400 yards with very good accuracy. This scope also has a BDC out to 800 meters. They run around $630.00.
My next scope is going to be Leupold's Mark 4/MRT line which are designed for the AR type rifles. They run around $700. Good Luck.
What part of Oklahoma are you from?

That ol' rascal tonlocus has it right. You can have both a red dot and a scope. This technique is used in USPSA (IPSC) three-gun competition where AR15's are commonly used. Scope is mounted normally and the red dot is mounted forward, on the right side of the handguard (left side if left handed). The shooter cants the rifle to allow use of the red dot on close-in targets, and shoots normal position with the scope for distant targets. I also use this setup for coyote hunting because we get shots at 10 feet to 400 yards. Works slick once you get used to it. I used a short Weaver rail screwed to my round freefloat tube to mount the red dot. Get the rail on very straight (Parallel to barrel) and use loctite.

Here's a pic of my setup.
